Re: LDS and Niantic Games
"Search" can be done on the church website if they have one. The title/distance edit distance in ingress is 100km, so one person cannot do it using any game client without cheating. Coordinated activity is possible. Or maybe some developer works on app to find churches and requested edits through dev channels.
Re: LDS and Niantic Games
so as someone who is LDS I think I can clear said things up
- LDS is how we prefer to be referenced as
- As for the generic descriptions I have to theory’s first there is a meeting house locator that ANYONE can use to find local church houses so a individual could be using this to create lots of waypoints second Niantic also makes waypoints using things like google maps data base this could be leading to general descriptions for every LDS church house
- The LDS church has no program with Niantic to create waypoints as advertising and repetitive descriptions could be from LDS websites used as the base description for church buildings
- Thank you for being so respectful to our religion this really means a lot as many people are very unkind towards us just as humans so once again thank you
Re: Violations at Tao Dan park
Dear Niantic,
This report is false and based on personal hatred rather than a desire to contribute to the community.
Here is the evidence:
- Tao Dan Park has been a popular location in the Pokemon Go Vietnam community since the game's release. It has been featured in many Vietnamese mainstream media outlets.
- From the game's launch in 2016 to the present (2024), the park has been the site of many special Pokemon Go events, attracting a large number of players and forming a large and healthy community.
- There is no evidence that any players have ever been at risk or harmed at this location.
The resetting of the PokéStop based on the hateful personal opinion of this player is having a negative impact on the entire Pokemon Go Vietnam player community in **** Chi Minh City. It could even destroy the connection of a large and loyal community of players to the game.
We urge Niantic to restore all PokéStops to their previous state and to provide special protection for this area, which has connected thousands of Trainers and created an unparalleled Pokemon Go community.
Featured "Hilton Dog Park" isn't a dog park
This is just a fenced off drainage area with no access.
Oh, wait! Were they talking about the grassy area around the fenced off drainage area? There is no dog park listed as an amenity here: https://www.hilton.com/en/hotels/rducxhw-homewood-suites-raleigh-cary-i-40/

Re: LDS and Niantic Games
Hi
Have this ever happend before? That something official came in?
With every post more in this discussion, I ask me "is this third party"?
Re: LDS and Niantic Games
Out in the real world, every venue has ample opportunity to control their own signs and messaging.
In Wayfarer, we choose, curate, and accept Points of Interest from the users' perspective. This means considering what is unique, interesting, special about the particular place, and sharing this in our own words.
The old Wayfarers were including location information and describing the area which was being served. The new, corporate branding is amplifying the voice of the parent organization, instead.
Re: Are veterinarian offices allowed as a pokestop?
As the others said, "It exists", "people go there", and "local business" are not acceptance criteria. If it's a great place to socialize, explain in what circumstances you'd take someone to see it, and hang out there. In other words, I seriously doubt it qualifies. But who knows, maybe some veterinarian out there is outstanding with community events.
Re: Local Shop Criteiria (Baker, Butcher, Workshop, Drug store...)
These are NOT acceptance criteria: It exists. It's a local business. People go there to spend money and get stuff.
These ARE acceptance criteria: It was created to socialize, and people go there to socialize with each other. It was created to explore, and people go there to explore (statue, fountain, museum, etc). It was created for exercise and people go there to exercise.
A run-of-the-mill baker, butcher, or drug store would not qualify. They are nondistinctive and global. (I don't know what you mean by workshop. A gym would probably pass as exercise.)
But if the place hosts events or something, and people go for those events - sure, you could make the case for it as social. You could make a case that it meets explore or exercise too - if it does.
With businesses, your best bet is to find a mural or fountain in or near them, and submit is as a place to explore.
Could you give examples of what you've tried? All your text and both pictures. We can often help!
