The sculpture was removed and put into storage as a beer garden was build at its old location. After a year or so, it was brought to a new place in the same park, approx 150m beeline from the old spot.
Please see two newspaper clippings for the removal and a photo from Twitter for the new location.

Appeal Accepted - Thanks for the appeal, Trainer. After reviewing the additional evidence provided, we’ve decided to retire the Pokéstop/Gym in question.
