Wayfarer app and scanning
Let me start, I know this is gonna be very unpopular with a certain subset of players ;)
Portal scanning is a hot topic, and we see Niantic implement more and more incentives to do it. And if we follow logic, scanning might become a criteria for nominating a wayspot. That would be very good for the integrity of the wayspot database, and would make things a lot more correct.
This would make one thing very hard: wayspots without data coverage. Today, Pokemon Go can't nominate there, as it requires a connection. For ingress, we can remote nominate. If scanning becomes mandatory for nomination, this needs to be adressed. And I think I have a solution, and it relates to something else I've seen people wish for.
A Wayfarer app. A dedicated app, that removes the need for seperate games. You'd still have to qualify with lvl38/10 to nominate, but all would be done within one unified app. Including reviewing! I think this would make a lot more people aware of the whole reviewing part of this, as they would have to see both parts of the system at once.
This would allow for offline scanning, as long as you have a gps signal. Go to the object, take the pictures, scan, submit when you get home.
I know this would be a major task for the Wayfarer team, and probably more costly, but if you look at how they now have to do this for each game, wouldn't it free some resources to have it all in one spot? You could show all wayspots like in Intel, and the confusion for duplicates via PoGo-only players would be eleviated somewhat. And the difference in wording (add a pokestop etc.) would be gone, as it would be unified.
Just tossing out some ideas, as I think it's better if the community can have some input ahead of time, if this were to become a reality.

It wouldn't work, many could not do it, because not all cell phones have gyroscopes, in many countries only the most top-of-the-line molellars have them, and without gyroscopes there is no way to scan !. Example sansumg only the line A and S has, the line J7, j8 ... it does not have, of course of other motorola brands, ... several models do not have. This goes from country to country. So it would be unviable that photo mandatory requirement!
I like the idea of an app. but be aware that no everybody will like to download and install another app for wayfarer. and what about the voting system in our computers ?
I think this idea of requests being made by a fantastic WAYFARER application, everything would be centralized and practical.
I for one don’t think it would be wise to add another app for people to nominate. Pretty sure niantic wants to make it easy for everyone to nominate and having to download another app to do so is really just annoying.
They could easily just update any of there platforms to include this or to even have a link to ingress intel map and such for pokemon go users to not nominate duplicates like we see often. I for one don’t want to have to download another app i use for 10 seconds to nominate when its fine the way it is. Just my opinion though
Other app, maybe not, but the possibility to AR scan a POI and then submit it, is nice. While doing a nomination, we can AR scan that object, geo-location is embedded, you go home and submit it. That way it's harder to fake a wayspot because the scan has a GPS tag on it. I think a 360 panorama in-game could also be a solution.
Niantic has come out multiple times to dispel any idea eligibility and AR scans would be linked. I would put past them to lie, but it also doesn't make sense for them to force scanning when criteria allow non-scannable POIs to be accepted. For instance, how would you scan a soccer field? For having messed around with professional 3D scanners, I'm also unsure how precise Niantic tech is. Not certain it handles fine details or color, so murals might also be out of question. In any case all seems to indicate that AR scans and Wayfarer are two different projects Niantic has no intent of merging in the foreseeable future.
I do however agree there would be value to have a separate app for Wayfarer as it would allow for more nomination and reviewing features, get rid of game-specific terminology and implement a better reward system through app coupling like between Pokémon Go et HOME. Hopefully we could even see plugins like Wayfarer+ for the desktop website.
Well. I would like to be able to let reviewers see some kind of scan allowing me to prove that my nomination exist if Street views take me at the wrong place.
@Euthanasio2-PGO Many people submit Google photospheres for that purpose. Alternately, a really good supporting photo can help quite a lot.
The downside is that fake photospheres are becoming so common that I no longer trust them.
I do not agree to separate the application. It could be inside the same ticket or pokemon go.
For me it would be better if niantic allows only to nominate players by number of revised wayposts, that I can make a nomination for every 50 revisions, that would help the system a lot since at the world level there are more players who ask and fewer players who qualify with wayfarer
Given how bloated Pokemon Go has become and that 2GB phones can barely run before taking nominations process into consideration along with the fact that Pokmeon Go players cannot see all Wayspots, it may be better to create a separate client just for submitting, editing, and scanning while removing such features from the game clients.
Yes, I am doing them, but they are kinda a pain in the **** to make. The image do not "compile" properly like 80% of the time 😑
My thought was that reviewing also could be done in the same app, so everything would be consolidated to one place. The topic of gyroscopes is a valid one, but seeing how old phones seem to be phased out, how long till that isn't an issue anymore? The problem with having it in the games as of today would be the offline ability to scan/submit. You can't open ingress/pogo in areas without cellphone coverage.
The photosphere-argument I don't agree with, plainly because that is after all, a seperate app. So you'd be relying on another one.
For soccer fields: you don't have to scan the total area, it seems, based on how you get the scout status today. So As long as you scan at the location (yes, this can indeed be abused, just as you can abuse it today with wayspots that doesn't exist anymore,) it would be a valid scan.
"scanning might become a criteria for nominating a wayspot. "
No. Keep in mind that not all devices (or OS) support AR+ (portal scanning). Not everyone has spare money to buy a new phone just because of wayfarer. You got my point.
"scanning might become a criteria for nominating a wayspot."
That's a hard "no" from me. I'm not going to circulate around playgrounds taking videos with my phone.
