Advice please.

Sorry for the long way of posting but not sure how to attach my noms 😬 this was turned down solely on generic reasons... as you can see, if we were any more in the middle of nowhere, we wouldn’t exist 😜 given new critera, surely it should have been accepted , also, in the next town, they have 2 inns and both are accepted so I am just a bit baffled and losing the desire to continue taking the time to review or even bother submitting, which in turn is putting us off playing as we have to drive so far to play. This place is actually 5km away from us as it is. Crossbarry Inn

You might want a better picture and a better description. "Inn" means different things in different parts of the world, so if I saw that nimination, without a description, my first thought would be that it is a hotel. I googled it and discovered that it is a pub that serves food. If properly shown and described as a local pub and gathering place, it should be a lot easier to get through.

    Best of luck

    Try the following...

    Title: Crossbarry Inn

Description: Friendly pub serving fine local food

Supporting information: A great place to socialise in our area, where locals go for a meal out and drinks with friends. It's an important part of the community. Include a link to website/facebook/menu

Oh I'm sorry! What would you suggest instead then?

My suggestion can of course be improved upon but I believe its better than a 1 word description that was already tried.

I don't know the area so I can't suggest anything more detailled, but I'd accept a pub written in that way in a low density area - it is common sense that the local pub in an area with nothing else there is going to be a great place to socialise and therefore eligible. Please tell me why that is incorrect?

Here's an example of a pub that was recently accepted in my area, in case that helps?

I didn't submit it but I did review it, it's within view in game when I'm at home. I can tell you this is just a standard pub - nothing particularly special about it to set it apart from other pubs, but it is definitely a good place to socialise and was packed every weekend in pre-covid times, and did pretty good business when it was allowed to open across 2020. So what I am saying is a pub doesn't have to be Michelin starred food, special beer or a wierd theme to make it eligible, it just has to be a good place to grab a beer or a coke and chat with friends and have a nice time! That meets the new criteria in my opinion.

Just because a place is the only spot in town doesnt mean people go there to socialize. Things like trip advisor and yelp that show ratings help nominations to show they are a significant place in the community. If a nomination says “great place to socialize” and then shows the menu you didnt really provide any proof of how that place is a great spot for people to socialize. Its just a phrase of words niantic makes hot after making it criteria. Like “visually unique” or even “place of worship”. So using hot key words without evidence shows you don’t have anything that makes that nomination worth acceptance

When I review pubs/restaurants/et, I'm looking for evidence for its cultural and community importance beyond its primary function. If the submitter (or a quick Google search) can convince me that the place hosts events (concerts, community workshops etc.) or it has something cool and unique that ties it to the local culture, I will accept. But if it's just another run-of-the-mill place where people go to eat mediocre pizza or get drunk after work, I won't accept it even if it's the only place in town that serves pizza/alcohol, because it's just not eligible IMO.

The discription needs to tell a story of why this location stands out from other restaurants or pubs or is unique. The discription you gave says nothing more than "it exists", which doesn't explain about why it is an interesting place.

I guess I don't understand what you guys mean by socialising. To me it is obvious that a pub that isn't a good place to socialise will go out of business. You go there to sit, drink, chat, eat. The criteria doesn't say unique, it says a good place to socialise. But equally if it is the only one in town, it is pretty unique isn't it?

I am not trying to say this pub is the best thing ever. I'm trying to say, if it's the only pub in town then it is 100% eligible. I don't know where you guys live, but in rural locations like where my family live in rural Wales, everyone just goes the pub to socialise. There is nothing else!

Casey even used that as an example a month or two ago, describing how even a huge chain coffee shop can be eligible as a good place to socialise in a small town and that we should use our judgement. So I was only listening to Casey. Am I wrong?!

Thanks all, I think I give up really, I think Niantic need to make it a bit more straight forward really and less room for individuals personal views as to whether something is passed or not. Some say “you must sell it to me”? Why? Either it follows criteria or it doesn’t. Some say “visually unique” means it should be pretty and stand out?? Really?? One persons idea of pretty won’t be everyone’s idea of pretty... and it even says on review page that it should be something that is not common in the area...., such as the pub, or the equestrian centre....etc. I will re submit on tips given but it just seems to be potluck really and seems to be personal to some reviewers for some reason. On the social aspect, everything placed in this world purposefully is always going to appeal to & attract someone so having to prove it is a bit odd really. Then there is the rural rural players such as ourselves... this pub is actually over 5km away from us 🤪 so perhaps for these situations, Niantic could look at placing a stop and gym about 1km away from clusters of houses, then we would still need to walk to them and no fears of strangers gathering on private ground... anyway, I very much appreciate the lengths people have gone to help.... I will update here if I get even one accepted nom 🙂 thanks and Happy New Year to all. 🎉🎊

This should be an easy submission. My main suggestion would be to improve the submitted photos.

I'd put their fb page into the supplemental info:

If I understood it correctly, they're hosting rugby nights and so forth, so easily a great place to socialize. I don't think you need to 'sell' it, but write 2 lines that show you like that place. Good luck!

for things that aren’t clear cut decisions like playgrounds in a park and are more borderline that need info to pass. You unfortunately have to give info to the reviewers to sell it as “why should this be accepted over every other pub”. Thats really all we ask for. Mind you the reviewers are entitled to there opinions some right some wrong. Giving up on it can show frustration which i understand but for others it shows that maybe this spot really isnt worth the stop/poi that you want it to become :/
