Arcades

I'm wondering if arcades are eligible.
My town, being a seaside town/resort, has a fair few, and are obviously quite popular amongst the tourists - a lot of them seem fascinated by the 2 pence machines for some reason.
The main arcade in my town also functions as a cinema (accessible via the arcade area), a bowling alley, and a bar/restaurant/nightclub upstairs.
I've never submitted any of them before because I'm not certain if they would fall under being generic businesses.

Was this inspired by what I posted in the Mall discussion or is it coincidental that we thought of the same thing? You can give it try and see what you get. I would highly favor these as local attractions because they easily meet two of the conditions. But the description still needs to convey that before I put my stamp of approval on it.
Some arcades are 18+ only, so would reject those for being adult orientated. But the one you described, with a bowling alley and a pub/restaurant, sounds family friendly and a great unique business if not a chain. Not sure all of them should be Wayspots but I'm sure there's a few that will meet local hotspot criteria.
A little of column A and a little of B. Mainly column A! 😉
But yeah, I agree in regards to description. I know something like "Local arcade with lots of 2p machines!" wouldn't get very far as opposed to "Arcade X has been operating for X amount of years. It boasts a wide variety of games, such as 2p machines, FPS machines, and bowling. It proves popular with tourists in the summer months"
The one with the restaurant/bar and bowling alley is definitely independently owned - I think all the arcades in my town are independently owned, or at least some of them are owned by the same individual/family.
I can agree with that. Similar to any business, it wouldn't necessarily be strictly eligible or ineligible.
"Barcades" are becoming more popular in the States, as well, which takes things to a more fun experience.
If a bar/pub is acceptable, why not a arcade center? Both gather people to have fun and waste money.
A hidden gem or hyper-local spot
A popular local spot that you would take a friend visiting your community for the first time
A popular spot where locals gather, but may be lesser-known outside the community
Tourist spots that showcase local flavor and culture and that make your city/neighborhood unique
That's where I put them (after judging picture and location).
What do you mean 18+ arcades? I wouldn't inherently call an arcade ineligible just because it was 18+ unless is was also something like a gentlemen's club or a **** range. For something related to alchohol to be inelgibile, it just has to sell alcohol as a store. If it serves alcohol as a beverage option but is also like a pub, restaurant, (or as @Gendgi pointed out) a barcade, I would say it can still be accepted if it fits other criteria.
I did a quick search, could you help me see where arcades were stated as ineligible in an AMA? Again, I would personally see these as businesses that may or may not be eligible, on a case by case situation.
Is anyone else able to show me an AMA about arcades being ineligible? Thanks.
I searched ImgressAMA for “arcade”, nuthin’.
Theres one already in my old home town which has made it through, I'm assuming on local significance and hyper spot nature.
Im guessing this is the kind of amusement arcades you're thinking of as its also on a sea front town
Try coin operated machine.
There is nothing form Niantic explicitly stating they are ineligible. As with all businesses, arcades are neither inherently eligible nor inherently ineligible. It comes down to whether the nominator can tell a believably adequate story about it being a local attraction.
Wouldn't operated machines be strictly different rather than @NicoSolheim-ING described?
It would depend very much on what Nico is trying to submit, we need some examples in images to help visualize I didn't get the "pence machine", sorry
Thanks! That sounds right by me.
What's a pence 😂
It isn't uncommon to have designated areas in a mall or business for pinball machines, shuffleboards, air hockey, and traditional "arcade" game consoles.
Frankly, Niantic insight (maybe from @NianticCasey-ING) would clarify, but I would assume it's similar to current guides. If it is a prominently featured location or well known as a hotspot in the community, or could be eligible, but isn't strictly always an eligible candidate.
I do also agree with your first statement. It takes on the submitter's intelligence haha.
Thanks for the clarifications on "pence", lol.
But yea, I don't have a strong opinion for those, ever since coin operated machine allowance went up in AMA.
I could see a stand alone arcade, but not a small cluster of machines attached to another business like a restaurant.
Lol I was the one who asked that question.
The picture I used for my example? That finally got approved last week. Took 4 or 5 stinking months
It is indeed that precise type of arcade I'm thinking of. The one I have in mind specifically also functions as a cinema, bar, and bowling alley, so plenty to it. Just want to nake sure I have a super awesome description for it first
Ah, my apologies for not explaining about the 2 pence machines. Basically, pence for us Brits is essentially what cents are to Americans. Also, here's an en example of a 2 pence machine:
You put 2 pence in with the hope of winning more 2 pence coins and prizes.
Obviously I don't think the 2 pence machines on their own would meet criteria, hence my asking about arcades as a whole.
I would accept certain ones of they were the more well known ones in the area. I'm thinking of blackpool here so I'd think of lime the treasure island one as hats been open since I was a child, has rides in it, is mostly for families etc. I'd also go for one that put the effort in rather tha just "x arcade"name and had a few machines outside but other h a that was indistinguishable from the others you walked by
