Location Edit Abuse

There is a new trend in town in our area, which is to move location of wayspot to remove the links. This has been noticed multiple times over many anchors which are hard to access because of lockdown. Few of them were taken down by throw away accounts which were banned soon after those accounts were reported. Now, again some bad elements are trying to change location of an anchor to remove the links.
Wayspot Name : Lady Lightbearer Statue
This is a long standing place, where entry is restricted now because of the lockdown. Some bad elements are trying to move it because of that. Please take action against people who are trying to move it here and there just to remove the links. The whole community is poignant because of these repeated incidents. @NianticCasey-ING

The POI shown in the screenshot is under attack from Opposite faction through unfair means. I am attaching the screenshot of portal which @niantic has already taken action to revert back to Enlightened faction multiple times. Now the attack is not by actually attacking, instead moving portals. This is not the first time. in the past, many POI has been moved and immediatly after the location edit confirmation mail is recieved, the links are established by opposite faction as if they were informed by some one . This is not good for the gameplay at all. This is making the community toxic. This tendancy is mocking the efforts of people who actual spent their time to travel to locations to take down portals .

When a portal is moved the links are dropped but the owner of the deployed resos does not change. That usually happens when spoofing is reverted, not when it has a location edit. The opposing faction can't link to it just because it was moved.
Agreed, but they can deploy blockers. Since it’s not accessible at the time, redeploying all the links are impossible. This happened 3 months ago when that place was taken down by some spoofer. Even though it was reinstated, there were so many cross links Niantic said reverting the old links aren’t possible. So the damage was done and the ripples of that are still there.
Ah I see, so that's a different situation than the ongoing location edits.
some people are keen on find out loop holes to make effortless harm to people who put there time and money into travelling go waste. The change in location shouldnot make any field or link of that portal go down, then only these anonymous players will stop doing this.
I don't understand why NIA has to drop the links whenever a portal is moved. Why can't they just keep the links even if they move a portal? If you move a gym in Pokemon go it doesn't throw out all the Pokemon in it right? Why treating ingress diffenently?
Lot of Pokemon players are accepting wrong position just because they feel moving it to that position helps the reviewer change cell or something to get a new gym or something. What these reviewers don't understand in the implications it's happening in ingress.
When a person travels a lot to capture a portal and makes long links they are put a lot of resources into it. And when someone just sitting in home and changing the location and getting the links thrown out is totally unfair.
I have been a ingress player for some 5 years atleast. And only very recently such dirty activities started to pop up in game play. It's is totally unfair and I want NIA to do something about this.
@MrRaffz-ING The problem with keeping links when something is moved is that you can wind up with crossed links. In thinking through the design challenges around solving that problem it seems easier and better to me to drop the links.
If all the players had fair gameplay intentions, i am ok with it. But The thing is some people are exploiting this bug.
@MrRaffz-ING I completely understand.
I am sorry to activate this thread again but the abuse of location edits are still going on.
A perfectly situated Wayspot is being moved to drop the links made. What’s the purpose of travelling if this is a shortcut to remove the links. Everyone can just sit in some place and edit and throw blockers. This is taking the fun out of the game and people are leaving the game. The community is feeling melancholy because of this repeated edits. Please take some action or keep the links active even if a Wayspot is moved to avoid this flood of improper edits. @NianticCasey-ING @NianticBrian-ING
This location moving circus by Pokemon go community is really a pain. We dedicate time and money in playing Ingress the same way it's dedicated to Pokemon go. And at the end all we get is abused portals. You can already see a decline of Ingress players at least in India because of various such reasons. Probably getting into the field is the only way NIA can understand. Dialogues with the Pokemon go community has got us replies like "we don't care, all we care is about Pokemon".
Even while reviewing on OPR we regularly come across location edits where a description edit is given which tells the reviewer where to move it(picture attached below). Everytime it's reported abuse but even after so many abuse reports it still continues
Niantic did take steps with location edit being locked to 10m and changing the gym algorithm but we are still constantly haunted by the portal moving game. Hope they consider this seriously. @NianticCasey-ING @NianticBrian-ING
The easy solution would be scrapping the density rules. But this will not gonna happen. Since then there will be lots of edits to get their accepted spots into the game.
The issue is not just Pokemon go players. Ingress players are now using this to reset/destroy links and fields.
NIA should step in and do what's necessary to stop people from doing this.
Thanks for bringing this up, @iHellRaiser-ING! We are currently looking into this, I appreciate your patience until I write back. Thank you!

Hi @NianticGiffard , that’s the wrong player you tagged but much appreciated 😀.
A lot of unwanted edits are going on, I hope the action taken by Niantic will put a brake on that.
