Edit Season is Coming?

Back in April last year, some people may recall that their Wayfarer systems mainly delegated wayspot edit reviews with no end in sight, along with the "Please retry in 3...2...1..." error between reviews. However, I think it's on the verge of happening again.
Very recently most of the reviews I do are edits. It's just edit after edit, a few nominations in-between, and then more edits. I doubt that I am getting to the end of the nomination reviewing queues (because I only really review a moderate amount), but there are a ton of edits.
Is this something else that other people are noticing in other areas? Maybe Niantic flipped a switch and are now prioritising edits to maybe knock down the edit queues?

I saw this post and decided to track edit reviews this morning. I managed to get 44 reviews (before getting a cooldown for no apparent reason), and there were 12 edits between them. I wouldn't say that's too much - if anything, I'd consider it less than usual.
Maybe it's a local thing? Some group decided to submit a massive amount of edit requests at one point?
First time?
Here in my country, both nomination and edit reviews (mostly location edits) I've reviewed are 50:50. It already lasts for months even after Niantic set distance restriction for location edits.
And yes, you can guess it—most edits are trying to take advantage of S2 cells system.
How do you know the edits are for taking advantage of cells? Is this another "computer only" thing that you don't see on a phone?
I like reviewing edits of titles and descriptions, it's nice to see more information being added or spelling and grammar being corrected. I'd love to do more of those and less of the location ones.
In my case, most of location edits are accompanied with either title or description edits that obviously influencing reviewers to choose a spot they want.
Their reason? Another Ingress-only portals can be turned into Pokestops.
That makes sense as a way to tell, although usually those types of edit don't give me enough information to choose the "right" location even if I wanted to. If you're going to abuse the system at least do it in a way that means people understand what you want! /s
This morning out of like 30 reviews, 19 of them were edits. Mainly they were just random spelling mistake issues or the really dumb location edits. Usually these edits are like down Wollongong way or rural areas, but seeing a lot more edits closer to the big city. I really do think some blitz priority is happening lately.
They're just observations, but there are definitely more edits being funneled down. Used to be maybe like 10 per cent of what I review are edits, now it's over 60%, but not complaining because it means the edits backlog is getting cleared and they are almost very easy agreements.
Do edits count towards your stats? I don't think they do, otherwise I am sure my "correct" totals would be much higher as I do so many of them.
they do. 1 edit = one review, if you vote "correct" you get 1 point for your upgrade. since there is no subcategory for edits you cant check yourself how many edits you have done correct. if i for example caluclate my accepts, rejects and dublicates together i habe 7660 agreements, but i have 86 upgreades. this diffrence come from the edit reviews
