Hopefully just got a better position. 🤞 I liked Casey being a part of the wayfarer team. 🤩 The strange thing is Casey’s last comment was June 16th, but they were last active July 30th. Hopefully everything is alright
As we have a new Wayfarer Community Specialist now in @NianticTintino this seems a valid topic to bring back up that Casey started but didn’t have the time to finish up before moving on to other Niantic projects. Would be great if you could look to revisit this when you’ve got settled and been through all the training bits Tintino!
Wasn't going to reply, but some of these responses are kind of terrifying, so here's my input.
What type of expectations do you, a forum member, have for the Community Advocates?
Facilitates communication. That's really it. Community Advocates should have no power whatsoever over other users in the forum - no power to enforce, no power to ban, no power to define abuse, no power to close threads on a whim. There is too much of that happening already, and that is only within a real admin's wheelhouse to do (and only after they actually educate themselves on the situation, and absolutely NOT just based on anyone's say-so). Ultimately, these are unpaid anonymous volunteers and that's it.
What type of potential perks would you expect as a part of a Community Advocate program?
Absolutely no submission fast-tracking or rejection abilities, no extra upgrades, no extra submissions above existing limits. Above all else, there is already a vetting system in place, which works because it doesn't rely on the mere opinion of a single person. Giving anyone additional Wayfarer powers will result in abuse. Perks should be minimal; advocates already have a direct line to speak to Niantic and bring attention to user issues. If anything, the ability to get Niantic to mobilize on wayfarer and game issues or improvements is enough. This should not be an incentivized position. People should do it because they want to do it to make things better for the community, and not because they get anything of actual worth out of it.
I think all I want to see if a small group of established community representatives to have a direct line of communication with the Niantic Wayfarer team.
Things that can be discussed are what works and what doesn’t within wayfarer and how to improve the system and the ability to highlight to NIAOps obvious cases of people attempting to abuse the system.
Same. For me, it begins and ends with communication. I hesitate even to specify "clear examples of abuse" because I've seen what several people have called clear abuse, and it's anything but. We already have people tagging admins to look at things right and left, crying abuse that isn't there and certainly can't be confirmed. If Niantic wants more of that, great. But only admins get to decide, once they brush up on their reading skills, because that's an issue too. But I digress. 😂
I guess that if only a small number of people can have that direct line then if those appointed people abuse that privilege then they would be replaced.

I think Casey has moved teams, or perhaps even moved on from Niantic.
