Residential areas on U.S. military bases

There are US military bases in Japan. I believe that the rejection criteria apply to candidates on the base, but do the rejection criteria apply to the residential areas of the U.S. military base as well?

Niantic guidance over the last few years about military bases is : if it's within the base limits/grounds/gate, it's a rejection, no mater if it may or may not obstruct operations, if it's a restricted area or not, if it's a publicly accessible subway restaurant, playground, chapel or residential area or not. Inside military base limits = rejection.

And quoting myself from another discussion:
Seems NIA can't stop the flow of invalid military POIs into the wayfarer system and out onto the game boards 😥
Not acceptable if access requires getting past an arm'd guard. The military doesn't want people wandering around there, or it wouldn't be guarded.
If the google truck went there, we can assume it is open to the public. Beyond that - it can be hard to know unless you're local. Often the base (or fort) is labeled on the map, or its name is part of the address.
Clarification has been updated to now accept SOME POI's within a military base. Areas meant for public access like parks or fields, or other public spaces are considered eligible now.
Still a bit of a quagmire but its great to see Niantic acknowledge there are legitimate locations within a military base that are just as valid as other locations. A public playground for base kids doesn't contain military secrets.
