Town/City Welcome Signs... Valid POI's?
Looking for some opinions on Welcome to .... signs. For example this one is located next to a sidewalk and is very near a rail trail.
Provided they meet all the other standard criteria (safe access, quality photo etc) I tend to lean yes on these as I would consider them points on reference for exploration but interested what the community in general feels.

Normally not eligible.
Depends on the type of welcome sign, and if its more than a standard run of the mill name on a board, type or sign. Something with a bit of artistic flair visual uniqueness, or cultural significance is really needed to get them through.
Having said that, I kind of like the look of the one you've posted above, so would give it a 3*, maybe 4* if the write up on the description and support statement was good.
Was kind of my thought as well. I would shy away from the metal "Welcome to Random" in a block font on a metal street post, but if its a wooden sign with some landscaping, and information I am inclined to accept as well.
The way I review it: If it's an entrance to a subdivisions like a neighborhood or cul de sac that an HOA would set up, not eligible.
If it's the welcome sign for a municipality/town/city or whatever, it can be eligible depending on how visually distinct it is. (directional traffic signs would be a no, for example)
They don't meet the critiera unless they are historically significant (ie listed on a historic register) or architecturally/artistically interesting.
I have had a few go through, but I did a bit a research and put a good deal of history of the town in the description. I would guess that a town dating back to the 1700s also has a good deal of history to research, and that is my recommendation. The other end of the spectrum is a sign for a new development that is generic, with no decent description.
