The portal has been removed recently. However, there seems to be no reason to make the portal an invalid portal which should be removed. The POI is still there as shown on the photos and it's not a generic tombstone.
Former position of the portal:

Since I don't see any reason to retire the portal I ask you to restore the waypoint.

Appeal Denied - Thanks for the appeal, Agent. We have taken another look but stand by our decision to retire this Portal. The reason being the POI is inside a cemetery.
€: It seems that the prior comment does not show up.
I don't agree with your reasoning. The POI is located on the church ground which is NOT the cemetary. Additionally, the publicly accessible playground on top indicates that this is not the cemetery area. It would make sense to retire the portal on the right which is located on the cemetery, but not the one that has been removed.
As an addition, you can see the cemetery also on open streetmap: https://www.openstreetmap.de/karte.html?zoom=18&lat=53.97437&lon=9.97072&layers=B000TT
It's the green area:
I don't agree with you. The cemetery is located in the area marked in blue, the removed POI is located on the church yard (red) which is NOT a cemetery. There are no graves, only the POI. Next to the church you can even find a publicly accessible playground (purple). I would understand that you remove the portal marked in yellow as is it located inside the cemetery walls, but no the one in red.
Unfortunately, I have to agree with him. This monument to the world wars is not in the cemetery, but in front of it.
In addition, it is completely common in Germany for churches and war memorials to be in cemeteries, so that's not an argument for me!
The wayspot is of a very high quality and should be restored.
Well, is it really THAT unfortunate to agree with me? 😉 But thanks anyways.
Regarding the war memorial/cemetery discussion, I've seen quite an amount of (rightfully) removed POI on cemeteries which were in fact private tombstone or similar. The only ones remaining were the war memorials. So this new rule, if your rejection is upheld, is quite surprising.
@NianticGiffard any update on your decision based on the argumentation shown above? In case the calling on the field stands it would be interesting to know if we can consider this as a general rule regarding historically interesting POI on a cemetery.
Well, if I look closely around the cemeteries in major cities in northern Germany, e.g. Hamburg, Kiel, Neumünster, it seems that the question about POIs on cemeteries is more or less answered as a lot of them are removed, even though they are/were war memorials.
But even though this is pretty clear, the POI in Großenaspe still bothers me as this one is NOT located on a cemetery, @NianticGiffard
