Photo Review in Wayfarer is confusing

Not sure if there was already a topic on this, but can the Photo Review in Wayfarer be overhauled?
Asking "Select which photo doesn't meet the criteria" can be confusing, especially since all other Wayfarer edits ask you to select the best one.
Even though i have seen plenty, I still re-read the instructions to make sure I do it correctly.
I recently also had 2 Photos rejected, with reviewers instead selecting the original blurry, pitch black picture on the Wayspot.

It is confusing to begin with, but just do what they ask. Look at the criteria via the highlighted link and then review whatever is presented. Even if they are of 4 completely different things, we are not asked to decide if they are the correct image for the POI, just if they meet the photo criteria.
Actually they're asking which do not meet the criteria, but all other edits are about which ones do meet them.
I agree it's confusing and not the best, but I can see why it was done like that.
For titles and descriptions, there will be only one. You can have many pictures, so it's not a matter of choosing only the best one. I still think we should be asked to select the ones that do meet the criteria, though.
The one item that really confuses me is the directive to reject "Exact duplicates of existing photos."
I'm always shown at least two photos at a time, so I assume one must be the existing photo and the other is newly submitted, but how do I know which is which?
One photo review had about 7 images... one was unique, and the other six were duplicates of each other but different from the first unique image. What was I supposed to do with that?
Thats the point, you arent supposed to know which is which, you just reject any that dont meet criteria. the one with the dupes, you reject 5 of the dupes.
Just had on with 3 photos, 2 of which were exactly the same, so oneof those was marked as "Does not meet criteria" and the other two were OK'ed.
I can see why they did it they way it is now, but I think it would be better if it just had you judge each individual photo on its own. Each one should get a yes or no button, and you should have to select an option for each photo to move on.
A Yes/No/Duplicate would be a great system as long as it showed all current photos.
I still think there's a problem with knowing how to evaluate duplicate photos. Say there are duplicate photos 1, 2, and 3, and they're shown to reviewers in a random order. If every reviewer accepts 1 and then rejects the other 2, then each of the 3 photos will be rejected 2/3 of the time. I assume Niantic ultimately considers that all 3 of those photos don't meet criteria, but I doubt that's what they intend. It would allow submitters to spam duplicates of the current existing photo to get it removed.
Photos don't get removed
I agree. I would like to see the UI redesigned so that each photo has a Yes/No button for "Does this photo meet the criteria?"
I would also like to see Niantic dedupe the photos before showing them to you. The technology to do this is pretty simple and there's no reason to spend human capital for something that can easily be handled by a machine.
+1 on improving photo UI, e.g. different reject reasons.
Just had an additional photo on my own wayspot rejected, not sure why, but I presume they either thought it was too similar to the original photo, or because it didn't include the signage for the POI. The POI is a "living sculpture" (sculpture made from 400 yr-old tree), photo 1 = sculpture + sign, photo 2 = just the sign, photo 3 (that got rejected) = just the sculpture. Oh, or maybe photo 3 was rejected because it looked like natural feature. 🤷♀️
I agree I find the wording confusing. Since usually I only have 2 to choose from and both meet the criteria. So 99% of the time I’m choosing the “both meet the criteria” option.
What's confusing about that?
b/c 99% of the time both are eligible. So I really don’t see the point of this at all. It’s literally pointless.
If they are both eligible that means it goes in game, its not pointless.
I do hope this is the case in most photo reviews. But there are rare occasions when someone would submit an invalid photo or a photo that isn't the Wayspot.
Yeah, it is indeed confusing. I wish I had to select the best ones as I have to do everywhere else.
That's not what photo reviews is about. It is about screening out any invalid photos that are submitted. Which image is the best is left to the local players who get to up-vote on the images they like or think are the best.
A date on the photos could be useful. If there is for instance a wall or garage painting, which has been redone with different colors, where when looking at the environment I can say that it really is the same location, how do I know which is the old and which is the new painting? I think the old one does not meet the criteria, it's no longer true.
You would be matching the mural to the title, if the new mural doesnt match, then it should be rejected.
With Graffiti I agree.
But near my apartment is a wall relief with craftsmen, it was black with red until recently. Now the house has been repainted. The motif remained the same, matching the title of the Pokéstop, but now it is black with light brown.
Another example is a cab call column in Dortmund. It used to be pink and is now yellow.
if the objects are the same, then they are still eligible, no need to deny an older color scheme.
