I'm usually pretty chill about having nominations rejected - sometimes reviewers see something I haven't, and they're actually right! The occasional rogue rejection can be irritating, but I sort of I think the system doesn't have to be perfect in order for it to be useful. It's AMAZING to be able to contribute in such a direct way to the game! But this week. . . man, I've had 3 nominations rejected back to back. . . nominations I feel couldn't BE any more acceptable. (I know the Niantic guidelines can be vague, but it's one of the few areas where they seem pretty clear!) I'm going to post the submissions here just in case there's something obviously wrong that I'm just not getting.
I know that all 3 of these submissions are for the South Downs Way, but it's not like I've selfishly nominated the church next door to my house, the sign in front of the church that details when services are, the sign at the back of the church for the car park, the church office, the piece of play equipment in the garden, the statue next to the play equipment, and a random 'famous' grave in the church cemetery. . . there are 8 miles and a LOT of elevation between these trail markers, and nobody lives anywhere near them. The first 2 nominations were rejected for being temporary or seasonal displays, which is ironic because the South Downs Way is made up of ancient byways that have been travelled by humans for literally thousands of years. The third nomination - a way marker for a National Trail, inside a nature reserve, inside a National Park - was rejected with no explanation.
Sure, I can re-submit these, (just as soon as I free up the space for the 30-mile bike ride this will entail), and I can upgrade them if I do enough reviews (my rating is 'great' btw but I can't get a pokestop submission approved to save my life). But I'm starting to wonder if it's worth being part of this? Shouldn't these be really straightforward, uncontroversial nominations?

Sell the trail junctions instead and not the markers specifically. The markers should only be used as an anchor to tie the Wayspot to the junction.
I do appreciate the endeavour for giving an interesting description in your proposals. That’s not common for trail markers. About rejections, I can only say that I never propose some because wooden signs always give awful or unreadable photos. Also I’m not okay with sign posts that only proposes directions. I would appreciate IRL to have a place name or a index number of a trail. That’s just my point of view of course. Good luck.
It the states these are accepted 95% of the time. Trails are great places to exercise and trail markers are important for navigation, especially in remote locations. They are very often wooden signs. In comparison these wooden trail markers are very official and would be accepted regularly if they were submitted on this side of the pond. I've read that these are harder to get accepted in Europe.
If hiking trails are great waypoints, then surely National Trails are awesome? because there are only 16 of them in the whole of England and Wales? and by definition they are the most historically and culturally important hiking trails we have? By the way, all 16 National Trails use these wooden trail posts. That's every significant, long-distance footpath in 2 countries being discounted. (& The Keymer Post does have a place name. It says South Downs Way down 2 sides, and The Keymer Post down the other 2. :) Seriously, I don't understand how THESE trail markers are unacceptable, while Niantic keep showcasing trail markers for lesser hiking trails, and specifically pointing them out as great wayspots in their otherwise often wishy washy guidelines. And why would other reviewers begrudge us outdoor adventure people 3 piffling wayspots across 8 miles?
With these markers, if there are any other identical "South Downs Way" markers visible on the "nearby" then there would get marked very low for "visual uniqueness". I've seen these sorts of things nominated every 25-50 me apart, so they score low.
Your last one is just a signpost. To be eligible, it needs to say "South Downs Way" on it somewhere.
Fair enough, but the photos in the text don't zoom. I normally review on a PC, big screen and zoom ability. This would count as acceptable now I can see it. I think too many people review on tiny phone screens and don't see enough of the small details, so you do get "wrong" rejections sometimes.
