Permanently removed sculpture keeps getting rejected as invalid
Hello there! 🙋
Not sure this is the correct place for this, but here goes:
In a part of my city, Aarhus, there is an old hospital and a belonging park. The whole area is now in the process of being converted into a residential area.
As a result of this, many Wayspots are no longer relevant and will even be blocking potential new and 'correct' ones.
I recently started reporting the permanently removed ones from the park, and submitting new material, most of which is already accepted and live in the games. Which is awesome! 🤩
BUT... There is one spot I have tried reporting a couple of times, even with scans that shows there is nothing there. But still I keep getting my reports rejected, even though the sculpture is clearly nowhere to be seen.
Title of the Wayspot: Del Af Større Insekt
Location: 56.185078,10.233857
City: Aarhus (area name and code: 8240 Risskov)
Screenshot of rejection email:
To support my claim, I have already sent in at least two scans of the area, where it is clear that the sculpture is no longer there.
It is a bit of work 're-building' a whole park like that, but it is my belief that the games should reflect what is actually out there - especially when there are so many new awesome POIs popping up in the area that would make great new Wayspots. 🙂
Thanks in advance for looking into this, team! 💪

You must provide photographic evidence that the Wayspot(s) no longer exists.
Well, it's not there. So... Nothing to photograph but grass, really. I thought the better way would be scanning, as I did twice (or maybe even 3 times). As I explained.
Also, I don't live near the park, which means I can't really do much from here right now. I'd think scans would be enough regardless, and a much better way of documenting than taking a photo of nothing.
Curious to see what Niantic says though.
Scanning has nothing to do with wayfarer, the scans are not viewed by the wayfarer team and scanning will not help remove a non existent poi.
Please chant this five times and tell everyone you know.
I wish Niantic would tell everyone instead. 🙃
I'm not sure why we're asked to scan anything, honestly. I thought it had some sort of logical purpose.
I hope you're wrong (not saying you are). I ran around the whole park scanning everything that was up for removal... Feel a bit like a waste of time if you're right. The rest of the invalid Wayspots got removed though, so I don't know what's up with that.
Scanning is for their AR+ project in order to show things in real world situations through the camera. It has nothing to do with wayfarer or removing anything.
I dug up the link for you.
Niantic has mutiple times, especially when PoGo players were falsely claiming that scans cased Pokestops to "disappear" when it fact it was other players reporting the Wayspots as invalid. But people still insist that scans are accessible to the Wayfarer staff.
How do you know it was PoGo players? Uhh, sorry...
Not insisting on anything btw, I just didn't know. 😊 It doesn't really make much sense with those scans. But gotcha, they are not relevant here.
I guess I'll go and make a photosphere or take a picture of the empty grass next time I come by the removed sculpture.
Thanks for the input, both of you, @TheFarix-PGO and @SlicedPeas-ING 👍️
Yeah, take a photosphere and post it with your rejection email.
@Johnsonsine-ING
If there is anything left of the surroundings which can be seen on the photosphere, try taking a photo with includes them to show the POI is gone.
Because only pogo players say "my PokeStop disappeared"
I'm sorry, you lost me. Where does that line come from? "My PokéStop disappeared"?
From people that started the rumors that scans removed PokeStops
There were also several threads on r/pokemongo and r/TheSilphRoad begging people to NOT scan Pokestops and gyms because it "made them disappear". There were also numerous appeals trying to restore the invalid Wayspots claiming that they were removed because they were scanned and not because they were invalid.
I mean, you could say that those weren't PoGo players spreading the rumor, just like how the one PoGo player couldn't believe that anyone would report invalid Wayspots because doing so would "hurt the game".
Maybe nobody started a rumor, maybe they just thought that was how it was. It's not because Niantic are great at getting information out there and people are used to finding out things as we go along.
I don't know.
But got it now, it has nothing to do with scans.
I don't really read there. 🤷♀️ But I'll take your word for it.
I know some think removing pokestops is pure evil. I don't. I like a map that reflects what is actually out there.
I can't help but think though... Wouldn't it make sense for Niantic to use the scans to see if the Wayspots exist also? Maybe the reason many think the two are connected is that it would be a logical use of the scans.
I think the reasons for asking for scans seems vague otherwise, but maybe that's just me (I don't think it's just me).

Information gathered during PokéStop Scanning allows Niantic to generate accurate, dynamic 3-D maps of real-world objects, improving our understanding of how virtual objects persist, how they’re grounded in specific locations and where they are in relation to each other. Basically, devices will better understand what they are looking at in order to augment reality in real-time and allow Niantic to explore and deliver new types of AR experiences, which require an accurate and up-to-date 3-D map of the world.

It also didn't help that, when given information directly from Niantic employees, some users on there would fall back on nonsensical "why should I believe anything Niantic says?" conspiracy theories.
Insufficient Evidence, resubmit Appeal - Thanks for the appeal, Agent. Due to insufficient evidence, we’re unable to remove the Portal in question. If you have additional evidence to share like geotagged images or articles, please submit a new appeal with additional information and we’ll take another look.
Back from vacation - and back to work... lol
I was able to visit the park again today and made a photosphere (which should be available at the location now). The photo at the top is a screenshot from that photosphere. Notice the patch of grass-less ground.
The bottom photo is actually quite succesfully showing that there was something there - the sculpture - but clearly it isn't there anymore. 😜
@NianticGiffard or anyone else from the team, I hope this is enough proof. I reported the Wayspot invalid (permanently removed) again, I hope this time it can be removed from the games succesfully.
Your comment wasn't there when I posted the two photos and informed about the new photosphere. So that's odd.
Do I need to make this appeal all over again? This is beginning to get a bit exhausting. 😅
