Painted fire hydrents

Casey, should a painted fire hydrent be accepted or should it be rejected for interfering with emergency services? Does being next to private residential property change things if painted hydrent are eligible?
Answers
Language from illegible Wayspots:
This includes anywhere that may interfere with the operations of fire stations, police stations, hospitals, military bases, industrial sites, power plants, or air traffic control towers.
Fire Hydrants are used by Fire Fighters for an emergency. That would interfere with Fire Fighters in my opinion. (This is another wizards issue with nest flags.)
How likely is the fire hydrant to be used? I think common sense should apply if the chance is very small and that a group could easily disperse in an emergency. However if the hydrant gets regular use then it would be a definite no from me
Fire-hydrants during the summer are abuse by people opening the hydrant when they are not supposed too. I don't think they should be used for wayspots because that brings more attention to them to be abused. But if Niantic deems them acceptable than I will change my stance.
Even if a fire hydrant is likely to be used, you cannot predict the chance that an emergency will happen. We don't want to put players lives at risk.
So Fire Hydrants are Invalid, they are used for emergency services.
If we applied that emergency logic, there should be no POIs at all since somewhere at some time, a fire might be near a portal... maybe...
If you nominate a fire hydrant that is painted like a dog which I’ve seen in the past. That’s valid for art but otherwise a hydrant as itself isn’t eligible.
@ChampReady-PGO those previous fire hydrants do not meet criteria. It has always been a rejection to fire hydrants for EMS.
@Gabriel0322-PGO I understand the criteria would’ve changed since then and wasn’t saying it should be but stating in the past that has happened.
Standing near a fire hydrant does not obstruct emergency services. Parking next to them is already illegal. If there is a fire i imagine the players could simply leave since they are not limited to walking single file down a road.
Standing in the driveway of a fire hall, hospital or police station, sure.
Every building has an exterior hookup for fire services. None of which are ineligible for obstruction.
I agree with this. But whenever the question popped up on /r/NianticWayfarer, there were a significant number of individuals who insisted they should be eligible and that the "emergency services" clause does not apply do to their "infrequent use." That is why I asked @NianticCasey-ING for a clarification.

I'd love clarification as well cause there's a university I keep getting noms from that has dozens of painted fire hydrants as portals already, and I'd hate for my rank to go down cause I'm rating them low.
Painted fire hydrants are fine. they're public art. nobody is going to cause an emergency by hanging out near a fire hydrant for 5 or 10 minutes.
I think you mistook my meaning. The statement by @D0BERMAXX-ING was that Agents lives would be at risk by simply being near a fire hydrant, and therefore they are included in the emergency services clause.
I'm siding with the "almost never used on an individual scale" crowd that painted ones should be eligible.
Bumping this because this was never clarified.
