4.1K Niantic POIs missing in Minneapolis and Saint Paul for HP Wizards Unite

First and foremost, please know that I am aware that Harry Potter Wizards Unite does not have wayfarer, but it was suggested that this information get reported here because all of these wayspots disappeared at exactly the same time (the suggestion came from someone on the Wayfarer forum on Reddit). I also realize that some may think this is the known issue of new wayspots/POI syncing with HPWU, but that is not the case. The 4.1K were existing, known wayspots (and still exist and are active in Pokémon Go).

Here is the situation:

December 17, 2020, a calamity struck players of Niantic and Warner Brothers- Harry Potter Wizards Unite game. A total of 4.1K (as in thousand) wayspots or points of interest disappeared from the in-game map. The POIs that disappeared were inns, greenhouses, and fortresses.

Minneapolis and St. Paul are known together as the Twin Cities and have a combined square mileage of 6364 and a population of 668,000 people. Not a small area.

All the missing POIs have a few things in common: they all disappeared on December 17, 2020, they are all within the city limits of Minneapolis or St. Paul, and they all still exist in both Ingress and Pokemon Go.

A large local HPWU discord group has a channel dedicated to this issue.

This has been a huge issue for us in the Twin Cities area. It has been going on for 8 months, as of August 17, 2021.

The traces or spawns are also decreasing greatly as there are no players with Spell Energy (SE) to return them.

The game developers know about and have tried unsuccessfully to restore the in-game map points.

Why and how is this an acceptable way for Niantic or Warner Brothers to run their business? If this were in Pokemon Go, how long would the fix have taken?

Can you imagine if this was your gameplay area?

If it can happen here, it could happen anywhere worldwide. Please help Twin City witches and wizards get media attention to find a resolution to this issue.

@NianticTintino @NianticGiffard I was one of the people who suggested that this got posted here (it had been posted in r/NianticWayfarer on Reddit). As @MainMan02-PGO stated, I realise that this issue isn't strictly Wayfarer related in that Wizards Unite players can't access Wayfarer, but the issue is big enough that it suggests there could potentially be an issue with the wayspot database, which would indeed be an issue of concern to the Wayfarer team.

Regardless of whether it is or isn't technically Wayfarer related though, this problem definitely could do with looking into. I realise the Wayfarer team have a lot on their plates right now with all the maintenance, but is there any chance your team can get in touch with the Wizards Unite team and see if something can be done about this? 8 months is a very long time to go with 0 wayspots showing up where there should be over 4000, and I can't help but feel that this would get looked into very quickly if it happened in Pokémon Go or Ingress.

Has there been any developments in this case @NianticGiffard @NianticTintino? I personally am not affected by it (I'm not even on the correct continent), but it has been nearly a month since this was marked as "investigating", and I was wondering if any progress had been made in determining what the fault is here, as whatever has gone wrong in this situation is pretty significant.
