Looking for guidance on why my first submission was rejected.
Hi all,
I’m new at this. Put in my first submission earlier this month and have been reviewing a lot in my spare time since. That submission ended up being rejected citing: “The real-world location of the nomination appears to be on private residential property or farm, Nomination does not meet acceptance criteria, The real-world location of the nomination could not be confirmed to have an acceptable pedestrian pathway leading up to it.”
There’s a very large stone patio out front which I felt was pretty reasonable pedestrian access, this is shown in a picture I took. This is also a public farm store and Community Shared Agriculture program farm that sees hundreds of customers a week in the summertime.
Where did I go wrong?

does this farm do anything community wise? Is it a community farm or more of a general store? From the description given you havent really given reviewers much to go off of (i dont see your supporting info in these pictures so can’t judge that).
on a side note that pergola with the sphere thing ontop looks to be an interesting thing that may possibly be nominated. Although you will have to get over the hurdle of wether or not it is temporary due to the easily seen wheels underneath
I looked up their website and read some pages. Seems like a nice local hotspot that’s been around for over 100 years. I like this nomination. Difficult part is to write something to convince the reviewers that it is special. Good luck! :)
I suggest submitting it again and putting what @44karen44-PGO wrote as supporting information with a link to the website. By now you should know how much supporting information can make-or-break a submission.
As a side note unless theres some really cool things on there website. Being old does not make anything eligible.
A family owned business that has been operating for so many years will be super known and imbedded in the community and is IMO more eligible than all the random ‘popular’ cafe’s or restaurants I see in a rental space that will probably be replaced by something else in 5 years.
Well seeing how this was literally my first submission ever and I had done no or minimal reviewing up until then, no, I didn’t know.
I understand that. But just stating that just because its old doesnt mean its eligible. You have to provide examples of how its eligible because saying “its over 100 years old” doesnt cut it. If you said that plus “theyve been donating to fund various projects and events around town” then list those things. That makes it more eligible
@GetGoodKid-PGO great that you are making nominations to the portal network.
But:
there is no difference between a single family home and a single family home-plant-farm.
Niantic has made it clear that they absolutely do not want this.
“The real-world location of the nomination appears to be on private residential property or farm"
-> Please re-read the criteria for what to submit and what not.
sorry Rod but this is a very poor interpretation of the guidelines. There is a major difference between a private farm and, as you labeled it, a single family home-plant-farm. Private property does not make something ineligible. The criteria is single family residential property or private farmland. They don't want people driving down a country road to a dairy farm that has no public access. However they encourage stops at places that are intended for public access, like storefronts or farms that encourage group tours and the like. From the looks of this, large parking lot; the fairly obvious store front; this would be a great place to visit and probably a tourist location if its been around for a long time.
And on that note around age. While I agree that just because something is old its not automatically eligible, it is helpful when describing a location such as this. It speaks to the cultural and historical relevance and only adds to the overall submission. Its just not enough to sell the nomination on its own.
@GetGoodKid-PGO definitely resubmit. If things are getting into voting quickly in your area, I would hold off on the upgrade and let it sit for a little while and gain some local review approvals. Folks who know the area are more likely to agree with you rather then someone from another part of the country. Local business are hard to get through sadly. Best of luck
@Oakes1923-PGO you could always ask Niantic to make better Guidelines that dont leave much room for juggling.
Just for your information on this wildly assumptive comment you’ve made, it’s a 5th generation family-owned plant farm and country store with a community shared agriculture program. They’ve been active in the community of this county for nearly a century. I highlighted that information when I resubmitted.
I resubmitted it with a lot more content on the farm’s history and role in the community, fingers crossed it gets approved this time!
To me, it looks like just another "generic business", I can't see it meeting any of the criteria.
Perhaps you just need better glasses.
Play nice sonny - if you don't agree with my comment just click disagree.
Why would another "generic" plant shop be either a "great place for exploration, excercise or to be social"?
"Hey, lets go explore of the beaten track". "Great, how about the local plant shop?" - No.
"Hey, you want to hang out at the local plant shop and do some reps"? - No
"Hey, will I see you at the local plant shop on Friday night?" - No.
Just because it is "old" or is the only thing you can find locally to nominate does not automatically make this an automatic acceptance. If you want this accepted then, like a local restaurant, you are going to have to show the reviewing community "why".
all this but your forgeting the major one for comunity hotspots we were told they are to be locations that you would take someone from out of town to experance as a part of your town does a plant shop match that nope
