What do with location edit info in the Wayspot description?
So, this isn't the best example, but it's the only one that popped up for me recently. Nevermind the specific text. What does everyone do when a POI location edit pops up, and it's clear someone's used the actual description to provide directions on the new location to pick? If it's not a clear case of gaming the grid system, and it's just someone saying something like "the left location is correct?"
Usually, you can't independently verify which location is correct. You have only their word to go on, which might or might not be based in reasons like the above example.
I've waffled between getting annoyed and picking at random, choosing the "I don't know" option because I really don't, and then actually picking what they ask for because I realize there's probably no other way for them to provide the needed location evidence and maybe I should be sympathetic. Maybe.

I ignore such messages as they can be reported for abuse (influencing reviewers).
When reviewing, I do my best to verify the location and choose the most correct one. If I don't know, I'll skip it.
I report the edit as abuse. There is a link to do so at the bottom of the page.
It's abuse... But it's why we need "supporting info" for edits. Especially for edits in areas with lacking satellite and streetview imagery.
That can be abused as easily. I'd rather edits just get instantly denied so we can appeal them right away on here with additional evidence - and that it was more obvious how it worked. Rejection emails don't even say you can appeal.
Well the definition of "abuse" on this is basically vandalizing/using an edit for a purpose other than what its intended to be.
You can just as easily ignore the supporting info, God knows I do every time I get a nomination that just says "Need more poke stop" or pointing out a category directory Recreation>Outdoor pool, Art>Pond Fountain etc. So im sure youll get people saying "move it to the bottom one so its in another cell. THEN you can mark it as abuse because they just called themselves out. Otherwise itll just be helpful in those obscured map edits.
This is 100% abuse and I flag it as such.
The request for supporting info on location edits is as old as location edits being user reviewed. Niantic said they do not want that and they want the decision made on visuals alone.
So the problem with using other edits to add that info is not just that they are misusing that edit form, but also that they are using it to to do an end run around the fact that Niantic does not want you to add influencing information.
Please stop suggesting the solution is that they should add an official channel for adding influencing information.
Niantic also does not want wayspots moved to manipulate cells.
location changes should only be submitted to make the marker more accurate or if the marker were to be closer to a logical point of discovery representing a larger location (e.g. a welcome sign for a large park).
They doubled down on that here:
purposely moving the pin to manipulate a specific app’s gameboard is not allowed.
This for example, without wayfarer+ features... And if this location didn't have streetview... I would have 0 clue which is where it should be and nobody else would either so it floats in voting purgatory for a millennium. (And over time will probably rack up additional edit points) How is that bad to have supporting info?
Also as of the reduced interaction distance in PoGo I have had an increase in location edits near houses... Nothing to do with supporting info but it sucks I cant tell if someone is moving it closer or not now... So I cant report abuse since I dont know if its happening.
@TrevorAlan-PGO Without Street View you're never going to be able to identify the exact location of that wayspot when it's under tree cover. In this particular case a better main photo would help because it would show that it's right at the edge of the driveway but that doesn't generalize. Wayfarer+ isn't going to help you if it's under tree cover and you don't have street view. Supporting info is player-generated and may not be reliable.
It's good to put this in perspective, I think. A wayspot that's seven meters off of its precise location in a way that doesn't impact accessibility is not a catastrophic failure of the system.
I don't know how W+ can really help you to find the proper location.
For me the best solution is to move pegman to the road and try to find out which location is more accurate.
With W+ you might have 2 options:
