When I woke up this morning, I had a similar feeling as if I went to my favorite park, and found there the ruins disfigured by vandals instead of a park...
Niantic! You have already apologized after realizing you made a huge mistake! Why did you do it again? Why did you do it again?
After the act you committed tonight, which isodorizing our beloved game, I have no hope left in Ingress will continue, that this game will continue to develop. You don't care about this game and you don't care about the people who play Ingress any more, and you certainly don't care what they think.
I can understand how some players on areas without absolutely anything can be happy with those. But adding such stuff totally destroys the AR idea of the game if locations don’t have any meaning anymore.
That’s the same thing with Ingress/PoGo/HPWU/Catan. The strength of these games has always been interesting places. Just let people add POIs via normal routes and discard any such nonsense imports from other systems.
Seeing how some of these poi are in the middle of water bodies, airports, prisons etc. I really wish Niantic won't bring this to our country. As a wayfarer I would feel disgusted.
You’re right. However @NianticTintino is the Community Specialist and one of their responsibilities is to engage with the community. @NianticDanbocat is engaging now, but doesn’t necessarily need to do so.
I still maintain my opinion that these automatically added wayspots is a huge insult, basically Niantic spitting in the face of the Wayfarer community.
First on PoGo, now on Ingress as well, as if the PoGo operation was a success in any way other than flooding the game map with garbage (AND the review queue, since users are adding photos to these new wayspots, and we get to review them).
Why bother with Challenges if you can do this in every country you wish? Hell, why bother with Wayfarer at all? Just cancel the program altogether.
And again, if you honestly think users will be reporting invalid wayspots around them, then I'm sorry, but you're... very disconnected from the way the average user things. People would not report something that ultimately makes the game easier and more fun for them. They barely do it with user-added wayspots, and sure as hell they won't bother doing it with wayspots added by Niantic.
And tagging @NianticGiffard sometimes helps to expedite such complaints.
But yeek, it's supposed to be "adventures by foot" not "make sure your phone is in a baggie so it doesn't get waterlogged 'exploring' those masses of terribly misplaced wayspots"
It might just be trash. People would upload anything to Foursquare. I get to review photos from these new wayspots in Turkey, and not all of them are generic businesses. I once got a hillslope, and a street, and a neighborhood (not a neighborhood sign, just a photo of some buildings).
Yeah, for sure. When I started using Foursquare it let me add individual trains, so there would be a few of those at stations like the 21:28 train from London (stopped at Lincoln Station junction) or something equally silly.
I don’t know if they’ve improved their review and acceptance now that they’re Swarm instead.
Seriously? I can't get my approved, eligible, manually submitted, current Pokestops added to Ingress because of an unacknowledged bug - but all those flawed imports can be added en masse? In my best mom voice....I'm not angry. I'm just disappointed.
Oh dear, I've put a massive post about the whole situation of Istanbul and my opinion in that other post when it should have been here. Well, either way it's stuck in moderation now, but yeah I share the same sentiment. Disappointment but also in real awe of how much trash has been added. Istanbul is looking at over 30,000 wayspots in total, don't know how much there were before but all we know now is that it's majority worthless garbage.
But these wayspots have been live since May. It's been 3-4 months and it wasn't until now and some backend work that now these all appear on the Intel Map that we see the real extent of the damage. But hey, there was an overwhelmingly positive response from players in the region so I guess that's all that really matters to Niantic now?
Appreciate that you are still new to all this but just for the sake of clarity and so I understand the new system….
Were these new waypoints uploaded to the wayfarer database and then Ingress drew down that information into their game? So that these points are official wayfarer waypoints ?
Or did Ingress independently draw down this information from a different database source and by pass wayfarer? And if this is the case are they being added to the wayfarer database.
Or was there a third scenario?
Trying to understand if there is a consistent flow of information, and at what point was a quality check meant to take place (obviously it hasn’t happened).
If there are no quality checks why is there so much concern over what wayfarers do?
This makes my recent "." Niantic reviewed nominations burn even more, especially considering they were (typically considered) eligible candidates and in hyper rural areas.
Yes, these seem to be the set of "PoI" that Niantic added to Pokemong Go in several countries, and now that they whole set has been added to Ingress and the full set is visible it shows the high quality standards used by Niantic (only 1 PoI per Level 17 cell was visible in Pokemon)
This looks like fallout from the re-synchronisation they’ve been working on. Some of the old meat wasn’t coming out of the sausage-grinder and now a bad batch came out all at once.
If they added special tags in their database, they can delete these en-masse.

Still not enough pokestops. /s
S13 cells full of garbage without photos but impossible objects density.
Dozens portals at Bosphorus waters.
Looks like perfect import from Foursquare.
Thank you, Niantic! :/
In my hometown of Torzhok, only one point was added from Foursquare: the prison.
Thanks to Niantic for "improving" the portal network.
But all in all, it's good that there is only one, it will be easy to remove the consequences of this terrible decision. Hopefully.

Why did you do that? Why did you add all this **** to your favorite game?
Dear God. And they want us to deny fountains if they are placed in ponds?

Casey quit the job as the Wayfarer specialist. His job is now getting processed by @NianticTintino. You dont need to tag Casey anymore.
how sad so many neutrals :/
Zero here 🙃
🤢
I reaaally wanna see how these look like in Ingress. Could you share a screenshot of the scanner map view, by chance? I'm really curious 🙈

Those tagging Casey, Casey has moved on from Wayfarer.
You want to be tagging @NianticTintino instead

Isn't @NianticDanbocat the product manager now though?

I wonder what the Foursquare locations are in the sea that they used. Maybe users checking in on a boat?
It might just be trash. People would upload anything to Foursquare. I get to review photos from these new wayspots in Turkey, and not all of them are generic businesses. I once got a hillslope, and a street, and a neighborhood (not a neighborhood sign, just a photo of some buildings).

Come on, Niantic, let's set sail to pick up the drifting garbage now.
Seriously? I can't get my approved, eligible, manually submitted, current Pokestops added to Ingress because of an unacknowledged bug - but all those flawed imports can be added en masse? In my best mom voice....I'm not angry. I'm just disappointed.
i am angry, and disappointed. it is not just a slap in the face, it is both hands on both cheeks

Honestly I’m gobsmacked as they say around here.
This makes my recent "." Niantic reviewed nominations burn even more, especially considering they were (typically considered) eligible candidates and in hyper rural areas.
Literally a giant "eff you" from Niantic. Thanks.
So these POI were already imported, but only appeared in PGO, and now (since yesterday night) they are in Ingress as well?
I'm just trying to understand what happened.

You did plan for this ahead of time, right, team?
A tremendous tragedy occurred for Ingress. This is what happened.😰
