Upgrades, how do they work?

Hello, this post is to know the real workings of the Upgrades within Wayfarer.

Do they help with the nominations?,

Do they make the nominations go to the vote earlier?,

Do they work depending on the geographical area?,

Etc.

Any information is very helpful. I want to know everything about this Wayfarer feature. Tnks

Normally your reviews are seen by reviewers in a limited geographical area. Upgraded nominations are seen by reviewers nationwide (in the US) therefore you usually get an answer to the nomination much faster. However, since the nomination isn’t seen by “locals” it’s harder to get “local hotspots” accepted as well as nominations that are hard to verify location. I do not believe they go into voting any faster per se. Try to use your upgrades on your best nominations.

They go into voting faster as well. In my area if you don't upgrade the nomination it stays in queue forever.

If you upgrade (or auto-upgrade) a nomination too quickly after submitting it (It might be around 12 hours?) Then the upgraded nomination will sit in queue for about 3-4 days. Supposedly this is to give you a chance to edit it before it goes into voting.

Otherwise, older nominations I've had upgrade have sometimes gone into voting almost immediately (usually within an hour of upgrading) especially if its an empty area/cell.

More people will see an upgraded nomination, and from a wider geographical area. In my experience, it means getting an answer within hours rather than weeks/months. That's great when your nomination gets accepted. If it is rejected, it can be a bit demotivating: especially if the rejection comes with a bunch of bogus reasons.

It's a bit hard to be any more specific about how much the reach increases, since the website gives no feedback about how many people have seen/voted on your nominations.
