Invalid mailboxes?

Hello, Are the criteria only valid depending on the country? Could someone explain to me why, according to Niantic's criteria, letter boxes are accepted as street furniture but always refused when it comes to Belgian boxes? As far as I know, our boxes are red and nonetheless simple, but that's still discrimination, isn't it?

No, the criteria are the same all over the world.
Letterboxes are ineligible since they are mass-produced and do not fit the three main criteria "A great place for exploration/exercise/being social with others". In case you see one ingame, this can be old Wayspots. Criteria have changed over time. Also, there is some trash from the early days of Ingress still ingame. I also got these POIs in my city :D

The "what is it?" drop down list is NOT an accepted criteria list.
...or, if a category is generally ineligible, Niantic could say so in the dropdown.
