Live in Wayfarer 3.1 is a new set of acceptance criteria! Please browse the information in this category with caution as it is in reference to the previous review guidelines. To learn more about the new criteria, see here: https://niantic.helpshift.com/a/wayfarer/

Prints vs Paintings

There is no distinction between them in criteria. Based on the UK Post Boxes, there shouldn't be a distinction as prints are limited in numbers far less than the UK Post Boxes. Typically a print is one of maybe 1,000 Please start accepting indoor paintings and prints at businesses per the updated criteria of January 2020.

January 2020 Update:

Indoor Wayspots

  • Acceptable: Mounted or free-standing murals, paintings, fountains, sculptures, etc. in a mall or the lobby of a business that also meet the criteria of being visually unique and locally significant.
  • Not acceptable: Mounted or free-standing murals, paintings, fountains, sculptures, etc. on or within 40 meters of private residences.

October 2019 Update:

Places like schools and private property say that we are to deny all nominations on those properties. Does this precedent extend to the denials that we are supposed to do on "Adult orientated Businesses" (**** clubs, liquor stores)? Example, a mural is painted on the wall of a marijuana shop. Are we to deny the mural because it's on a place that should not be accepted or are we to not worry about what type of business that it's on? The businesses themselves may not meet criteria since they would fall under generic businesses. A mural or candidate not related to the business should be reviewed on its own merit.

Potentially Confusing Nominations:

Indoor nominations

Indoor nominations are eligible, so long as they are accessible to the public in some capacity. Note that these nominations are less likely to be approved because they are more likely to be on private residential property (see Ineligible Wayspots) or to not be areas in which groups can congregate and play comfortably.

Provide all criteria for indoor submissions to show where they are allowed. That yes they should be reviewed on its own merit even if the business is not eligible.

Ingress AMA answer July 2019. Known issues with photospheres. They are not required.

Q61: When there is no StreetView or Photosphere available, the default view displays the Satellite imagery. When there is 3D-Satellite View available, it prioritzes that over the default flat satellite view (or depending on zoom level). This creates problems for me and fellow agents (at least in my location, might be because of the altitude) because the Location marker of my submissions appears at a completely different place because of the distortion. From our experience this is leading to many wrongfully rejected portal submissions. Are you aware of this issue? Would it be possible to make the flat Satellite view the default one?

A61: I’ll share this with the team.

August 2019 that support photo can be used to help confirm the submission even with Satellite View or Street View. As street view already has known issues for some users. But it is not required to use photospheres by niantic. This is required by ingress players.

    August 2019 AMA answer.

Q57: can you clearyfy what a photo of the surroundings means? often the people just turn around 180° and this helps exaqctly nothing because you cant veryfy a portal location like this. Can we deny such portal candidates if not beeing able to identyfy otherwise?

A57: As mentioned in the criteria, players are expected to “take a clear, bright photo for your submission that shows the candidate and its surroundings to help the reviewers determine if the candidate meets our acceptance criteria and confirm it is physically located in the suggested location.” However, the supporting photo is not the only resource available to you. You can also use Satellite View or Street View (if available) in maps to confirm if the object exists in that location.

@TheFarix-PGO We are on Wayfarer forum. Nonsense posts about a TC sockpuppet has no help to others. How about staying on track.

  • Dice3423-INGDice3423-ING Posts: 817 ✭✭✭✭

@TheFarix-PGO What is visually different about 39k post boxes in one country that is better than 1k potential prints scattered across the world?

  • Dice3423-INGDice3423-ING Posts: 817 ✭✭✭✭

January 2020 update states no distinction on prints. "Etc..." Means anything in the same category would be allowed.

TC was banned from the Ingress forums for posting deliberate misinformation ant outright lies about the Wayspot guidelines. The individual was also banned from the Wayfarer and OPR subRedits for the same behavior. You are exhibiting that exact same behavior here, it it is rather obvious that you are the same person as TC.

    Just stop.

Mass produced prints of artwork are not going to be valid, they are just copies of an original and as such not valid as candidates.

  • Dice3423-INGDice3423-ING Posts: 817 ✭✭✭✭

@Theisman-ING How is 39k postboxes not just copies of an original?

  • Theisman-INGTheisman-ING Posts: 903 ✭✭✭✭✭

Have I at any point commented on post boxes ? No.

You can not try and use an answer on post boxes to validate print copies of artwork, they are totally separate things.

Print copies of artwork are 1* candidates

  • Dice3423-INGDice3423-ING Posts: 817 ✭✭✭✭

Nothing in wayfarer says prints are not allowed. Prints are not mass produced. 1 of 1,000 is not mass produced. Mass produced would be like stuff for Mcdonald's where there is 39k of the locations across the world. (Similar to size of UK Post Boxes yet people don't see the distinction.) There is more than 1k cities in the world. 1 print to a city is not mass produced. 1 print to a city is far less and makes them visually unique from other wayspots locally.

  • YouLostAStar-INGYouLostAStar-ING Posts: 277 ✭✭✭✭✭

Mass produced artwork is a clear 1* and I can’t believe we are even having to argue about this. They are as bad as postboxes but at least those have some obsessives that care about them

Paintings at a business. No paintings in businesses are one of a kind. Every painting is a print. Niantic does not define the January update of prints not being acceptable. Contrary it specific says all art is Allowed in businesses.

@Theisman-ING Show me where in this update that it says no to prints.
