Update: In-Game Contribution Limit - Discussion

Hello Explorers,
I’m excited to share a small upcoming feature update.
In-Game Contribution Limits
For Pokémon GO players, we will be replacing the old contribution limit mechanism on October 26, 2021, (date updated on 10/13/21) from a 14 day wait period to accrue, to a daily accrual system, with increased max daily quota based on the contribution type. This applies to Wayspot nominations, reports, and AR scans. You’ll see this reflected in the messaging in your settings and the nominations or editing screens.
- New Nominations - 1 Daily accrual / 40 Daily Max
- Title Edits - 2 Daily Accrual / 40 Daily Max
- Description Edits - 2 Daily Accrual / 40 Daily Max
- Location Edits - 1 Daily Accrual / 40 Daily Max
- Photo Submissions - 2 Daily Accrual / 40 Daily Max
- Abuse Reports - 2 Daily Accrual / 40 Daily Max
- AR Scanning - 10 Daily Accrual / 200 Daily Max
For Ingress players, this same update will be coming later this year! We'll provide updates regarding release dates when we have them.
Stay tuned for more updates. Check out the original post HERE. Enjoy exploring!

Does "40 Daily Max" mean that's the most a player can send in one day and they can save up more than 40? Or is 40 the cap on what they can save up?
Either way... given how long the backlogs are in a lot of areas I have to say I don't like this. In my opinion players should receive fewer nominations and be able to earn more via reviewing.
I don't get it.
Does that mean, that one gets one (or two) point each day for each category, and then we can save up to 40 points?
So if i don't submit anything for 40 days, then I have 40 submission slots, that I can use at one day?
As somebody who travels a lot and makes lots of nominations in rural or remote places, I love the option of being able to hold even more nominations. I can't begin to explain how frustrating it is to sit down and have to decide what 7/14/21 nominations to make, depending on platform.
BUT.
Turnaround time for nominations is greatly influenced by what is currently in voting for a region. I've seen where I make 1 nomination in a remote area and it gets accepted in a matter of days, and I've seen where making 21 at once stalls them out indefinitely.
What kind of ways can Niantic help make sure that flooding the system won't increase the backlog in an unmanageable way? It's currently a flood of both ineligible candidates that need to stop but also eligible candidates that need to go through faster.
So, wait. I get each of those interactions per day, and they accumulate up to 40*? So if I don’t nominate any new POIs for three days, I’ll have 3 new nominations, and if I burn those I can come back tomorrow for another?
*I’m ignoring AR scans because I’m not doing those at all, ever.
I'm a bit confused by the wording too (I have been awake for 29 hours though so I'm struggling to take in even basic information right now haha). I did read it like you have, but it would be nice if @NianticTintino could confirm that we're understanding it correctly (or correct us if we're misunderstanding it)
Either way... given how long the backlogs are in a lot of areas I have to say I don't like this. In my opinion players should receive fewer nominations and be able to earn more via reviewing.
Absolutely. This is just going to make waiting times longer.
Although on the other hand, I do really like the idea of them accumulating, which would be great for traveling, etc. We'll see if it ever actually makes it into Ingress though.
One other question, I haven't ever submitted a title or description edit via Pokemon Go but in Ingress they have a combined cap and any edit submitted for either counts against that cap. Under this new system are these accruals and maximums separate? this extends to every item on the list, can we assume each item on the list is an individual accrual and cap?
@NianticTintino What are your plans for alleviating the significant negative impact this seems likely to have on waiting times?
The different numbers in the AR scans here were my only hint to understand this strange "explanation". Getting 10 points per day makes sense.
And that's enought for me. I did some scans to get poffins ..... I need to accumulate XL candies for my shundo groudon somehow xD
To be clear, I love the concept but not the overall increase in potential nominations. This effectively doubles the total nomination amount for Pokemon Go players.
Okay, so as others are questioning, it looks like its you get X daily, with a max stored unused of 40 submission/edits (except AR scanning)?
I HOPE this is getting rolled out with mandatory pre-nomination submission test. For all those who have never taken the wayfarer review test. Because I totally understand why people might be upset with the increase for PoGo players from 7/14days.
Personally for me I LOVE this. I love contributing to the game board and making it actually playable and more enjoyable for myself and others.
What's meant with "Abuse reports"? Normal reports? Not every invalid POI is abusive.
Also, 40 is way too low for me. If I am on one of my Anti-abuse tours I get up to a hundred reports in a single day.
>For Ingress players, this same update will be coming later this year
Just wanna make sure, as Ingress has both a higher refresh of the AR scans and higher scans overall (400 in 7 days as opposed to 200 in 14 days in PGO), will the AR scan accrual be tweaked for Ingress, and if the 400 limit still the same?
Hundred? Wow, good on you.
I guess at least it's a rolling amount, so you don't have to wait for 2 weeks or whatever for your bucket to refill...
But why have a limit on abuse/fake/not safe/no longer there reports? Also why limit AR scans (Are these tied to the tasks/rewards in-game?)
I'm thinking that the edits are getting nerfed because people don't use them nearly as often, and to also perhaps prevent flooding the system with edits (think the same location edit and name or photo edits over and over). But IDK about the abuse reports part???
Ingress also has a higher number of possible nominations, 14 in 13 days vs. 7 in 14 days.
So when Ingress gets this as well, do we get 80 nominations to use if we let them rack up?
Yes, but seeing as the new limit is 40, it's a gain for both games, so I didn't mention that
For the sake of Ingress, I really, really, really hope the AR scan limit is higher. In fact, the limit is currently 400 for Ingres, and I believe they are on a week turnaround, so when this eventually comes to Ingress, this will be a massive nerf.
I understand most PoGo, or even Ingress players do not give a **** about AR scans, but for those of us actually working on our Scout Controller medal, this will have massive negative effects.
I tend to do lots of scans in bulk when I visit new places, whether it be weekend trips or vacations. I will easily run out if the accrual limit is bumped down to 200 with a 20 day turnaround to get them all back. That is a ridiculous nerf that really doesn't seem to benefit anyone.
This is terribly thought out.
More nominations just means more garbage in the system, which is already slowed down from the existing garbage - which also puts off reviewers from reviewing, because all they see is garbage!
If you want to increase the number of nominations, enforce a strict in-game education system, or make it based on reviews. So that way people that submit nominations at least should have an idea of what they are doing, rather than the current situation where people have no idea and submit whatever they see.
Limiting Title Edits and Description Edits is also insufficient. Not sure how many you receive per day, but if I'm out or using my Ingress Drone, edits will be submitted at every chance in order to improve the database. Applying limitations to that will only ensure the quality of the database remains untouched and without proper oversight.
This also applies to limiting photo submissions. When I was actively out scanning portals, I would very easily use up my 50 allocated photo submissions per week. I would be proud that the wayspot imagery would be enhanced, but limiting this will also impact those that want to help improve the quality of the database.
As for scanning, I'm not too fussed. Already got Onyx Scout Controller lol The few times I can go outside I have only done about 50-100 scans per walk. Though if people are working on their badge, this will slow them down.
Overall, there is nothing here that promotes or incentivises reviewing, which is the one thing that is needed most.
Great.
You've fixed an issue that did not exist to start with. Good stuff Niantic.
The max number of subs does not affect that many people. Maybe if you are on holiday etc and want to do a lot, but all I think this will do is encourage (mostly POGO players, let's be honest and real here) to submit absolute nonsense simply because they can. Wayfarer is already rammed full of utter trash, including people literally sat on their toilet. Why encourage more of this?
How about you fix the major issues from previous "features" instead of making pointless changes.
Pokémon GO players have been begging for more nominations so of course they get the shiny new features firstly again.
I wonder if we will see people submit their front door 40 times, just to see if they can force it through somehow.
Just seems like a colossal waste of resources. I’d rather see the number of contributions very low for people that have gained access by levelling in a game, and have more privileges granted when they have shown they can follow the criteria.
I did some reviews earlier, the amount of trees, street signs and other rubbish is staggering. I see this only enabling those already abusing the system to do more harm.
A few questions, @NianticTintino
On Oct 12 with this goes live, will we start with our 7 available nominations or will everyone reset to 0 or 1?
And does this mean the bonus nominations we were told would happen as a result of a previous bug is never going to happen?
Adding a third:
Will this happen before or after the promised "submission test" that was brought up recently?
I dislike it and I also don’t understand how Niantic came to the conclusion this was a good decision at this time.
Long turn around times were mentioned numerous times in the September AMA discussion and viewed so importantly by the community that multiple of those questions are currently in the top 15. Yet Niantic is going to double the number of nominations.
Besides the turnaround times, Niantic is limiting the ways in which we can enhance the quality of portals while greatly increasing the submissions being put into it without providing additional education to submitters.
Do I think the number of pogo nominations could have been addressed? Yes, but much much further down the road once the test unlocked submissions, the backlog had been addressed, and abuse was taken more seriously.
This is another disappointing announcement by Niantic that makes me question where things are headed.
I feel like Niantic should rather give people more encouragement to review. As a wayfinder who likes to explore new places this sounds amazing, but there are many many people who never review and just spam the queue with bad submissions.
Some people already suggested a system, where you could earn additional Nominations by reviewing a specific number AND while being rated "great".
Sadly we (the community) don't have the data, but I'm really curious to know how many people who are submitting never reviewed at least one nomination. It shouldn't be mandatory to review, but there should be encouragement to review (other than earning Upgrades, these can be rejected easily and all the work to earn them were unnecessary).
Well this seems to be going down like a hot mug of vomit. 😂 - We will be getting told in the next AMA that this was the #1 requested feature.
Another thought on this. A player gets to level 10/38, and then doesn’t use up any nominations for 40 days.
Before they’d have 21 at most (let’s say they hit both levels at the same time) by this point. Now instead they have 80.
There’s (currently) no need to read the criteria or pass a test before they can submit.
What stops 80 submissions of this new Wayfarer’s front door/back garden?
The more I think about this announcement the more I realize just how out of touch it is.
The fact that the announcement even calls this a "small change" is frankly even crazier. This is massive.
Turnaround times are a MASSIVE problem, mostly because of all the thats that the system is flooded with.
Extra nominations for PoGo players should be given based on people who know what they are doing (and consistently submit good nominations), and for people who actually review and help do their part in reducing the backlog.
For the past couple weeks people who havent seen natural approvals in forever have actually noticed things getting approved again. It has been wonderful. I guess we can throw that out the window.
Most requested by Pokémon Go players for sure.
Spent hundreds of dollars playing pogo to get to level 40 so I could submit more portals. A game that I really don't enjoy as much as Ingress or Catan (builder not collector).... I am such an idiot.
