Consent for Wayfarer Attribution

Hello Explorers,
As many of you know, as a Wayfarer Explorer you’re able to opt-in and out of having your in-game codename displayed on features across Niantic products, that are designed to display the contributor’s codename. With new features shipping periodically, we want to inform/remind you that if you have this feature active, your codename will continue to be displayed in features designed to do so. This is the codename from the game which you contributed from.
If you do not wish to have your codename displayed on your contributions, please make sure you toggle off this setting in your Wayfarer Settings page. You can do this by logging into Wayfarer, Settings, Codename Display for Wayspot Submissions, and toggling the on/off switch to reflect your preference. See below:
Please note that if you turn this off, your attribution will be removed from all nominations past and future across all games. Regardless of having this turned on or off, you will still get in-game rewards associated with the result of your nominations. Check out the original post HERE.
Safe Exploring!

Why is this your important post for the day rather than following up in any of the major outstanding bug reports or following up in https://community.wayfarer.nianticlabs.com/discussion/23651/update-in-game-contribution-limit-discussion?
Not to be super negative, but this information is fairly straightforward in the help site already and doesn't appear to be intended to reach a larger audience, nor is it something I've seen requested to be addressed or helped by anyone in here. Meanwhile, we have bug reports dating months back that have or have not been acknowledged, and currently a major communications breakdown regarding the nominations change that was expected to go live today. Seeing this post sends a mixed signal on Niantic prioritization from what the community would actually like to be hearing about.
I don't know how many reports just have posts saying "a simple acknowledgement would go a long way."
@NianticTintino The statement there is blatantly false info. I have attribution turned OFF yet my name still appears on wayspots in Ingress. I made a post about it here:
Ingress does not hide the codename of the person who created the portal.
Is this a bug?
Does this consent and opting out of codename attribution also reflect in Ingress? Because it does not.
Doesn't appear to be working. I checked a portal near me and it still has my in-game codename on the image as the contributor and the option was already toggled off by default.
"Please allow up to 48 hours for this to come into effect."
I'm set to On, yet a few images I submitted via Pokemon Go don't show my player name. How new do submissions have to be to include credit?
At least it's not pinned :\
I also have it turned off but name is still showing on all portals I made in ingress.
I wonder if they ever test something before making statements...
@NianticTintino @NianticCasey-ING @NianticAaron @NianticGiffard @NianticGray
This news is so completely uninteresting and unimportant. Where is the so much touted change in the submission limit? And where is the option to file an objection against a false rejection ???? This is news that would be important !!!!

Regardless of having this turned on or off, you will still get in-game rewards associated with the result of your nominations.
Pokémon GO-only submitters: “We get in-game rewards?”
Ofc you do..... You get some.... And some....
Yeah, no, you're right 😂
Fame and Retribution
So when do they appear across game? I see my credits in Pokemon Go, but they're still all listed as unknown (including the new one since lightship) when I load them up in ingress.
My codename is the same in both games, I'm confused how they can't go cross-game
I'm curious as well. In Pokémon GO I can choose my "Niantic Profile Name" based on my Niantic Playernames (PoGO, Ingress, WU) and I always thought it's because this Playername would be displayed on every nomination I submitted in the Niantic Games. Are there any plans to implement this in the future?
Since we are responsible for recommending the correct Wayspot to Live, I don't understand why we should hide the code name in the opposite direction.
Why not just show "ING", "PGO", etc. at the end of the code name, just like in this forum?
Oh MY GOD!!
this sets up a system for haters to target someone’s nominations.
this explains a lot!!!! And ingress reviewers still can see who submitted the nomination even if we turn attribution off??
This needs fixing NOW!!! There are certain people who delight in causing havoc on their targeted enemies and friends of those enemies. It accounts for rejections of historic buildings smack dab in the middle of parks with photosphere and clear documentation of park on maps.
You still won't see anything during review, only after the POI was already approved.
In addition to what was said above, Ingress also won’t show who submitted the poi if it was submitted through pogo, it says “unknown”
Hello @willowitaly-ING, @TheFarix-PGO, @Ragnar1O1-PGO, @DeDuckIsDees-ING, and @CheeryDog-PGO,
Thank you for letting me know. I'll report this back to the team and respond on here when I hear back. Thanks!
Originally, that switch only influenced whether your name was on Showcase items on wayfarer.nianticlabs.com
This Niantic post was to tell us that the same switch will "soon" (translation: probably, eventually, some day) apply across Niantic platforms. So, think about whether you want it "on" or "off" - before they roll these changes across the games.
So, for example, if you currently have your name hidden for the Showcase, but enjoy seeing it in your favorite game... don't get mad when suddenly your name does not show on the (dozens or hundreds of) wayspots you created in your game.
It would have been unethical to apply the switch to all games before warning us. It is normal (not unethical) for Niantic communication to speak only from the company point of view, not the users'. Now they can say they warned us - even tho they didn't make it clear to us, what's changing or what are the ramifications.
The switch has affected whether my name shows in PoGo for as long as it has existed
Interesting. So, this post was just to alert Ingress agents that their name could disappear from portals if they have the switch set to suppress name on Showcase wayspots.
As @ArabellaArdelia-PGO said, it’s always done that, and in fact they actually made the language change at the beginning of September. This wasn’t a warning that they were going to change it, just a (kinda late) announcement that the change was made
From everything I've seen, the change has NOT happened in Ingress yet. Maybe this post should have only been made on the Ingress forum. But many agents come here (Wayfarer forum) but not there (Ingress forum). So Niantic put it both places.
This is a table that currently (as at 15 October 2021) illustrates how codenames in Wayfarer and Niantic games appear depending on which game the nomination was submitted with and whether the Wayfinder has opted in for Codename Display for Wayspot Submissions. Despite the change saying it's 48 hours to come into effect, it is usually instantaneous on the Wayfarer showcase (the current person featured in our area's Wayfarer Showcase has recently tested this), and is usually effective when the next Pokemon GO sync. Don't know about the Lightship changes though.
However, despite choosing to opt out, it does not hide the agent name. It will hide the Trainer name properly and also on the showcase but will still retain it on Ingress.
@NianticTintino It's not working yet.
Doesn't work for me. The option is activated, my name is displayed in Ingress, but in the Showcase there is only "Submitted by a fellow Wayfinder" for my wayspots, although I even want my name to be displayed there!
As a test, I have already deactivated it twice for more than 48 hours and then reactivated it, in the hope that it would then change something, but unfortunately not. But it's not that important to me either. The main thing is that my name is displayed correctly in Ingress.
This also does not work, even for Pokemon GO as well. Attribution is turned off but it still shows the name in Pokemon GO. Maybe Niantic is tying this in with the whole Niantic ID thing, and once that's rolled, all portals and Pokestops/Gyms will have attribution by the Niantic ID perhaps?
Yeah, my name is showing on pokestops now too even with the setting turned off. I don’t want people knowing which stops I submit!
