Edit changes for minor edits.

Is there a way for edits that require less than a few characters to be able to get a faster decision made? It seems simple misspelled words can be difficult to get addressed so as not to cause multiple people to submit the same edit.
Either that or is it possible to block others from making an edit while one is being decided on?
