Dubious Pedestrian Access?
Hi all,
I have received quite a few mural submissions from the following area: -33.700193,150.562604
The murals are painted on the side of a road which has roadside car parking. The following image shows the murals, with the cars parked next to it. A "2P" green sign in the background indicates this is an official parking zone.
There is no pedestrian footpath on the side of the road where the murals are.
Obviously, there must be considered to be safe access to get to that side of the road (otherwise how would people get out of their cars when they park?), but I don't know how I would feel about people standing around on foot in a place where cars are either driving past or are trying to park.
It seems that the consensus of Australian voters is to accept these portals, as a lot are live, including some which I have seen recently, but I wanted to see what the thoughts of the forum were re: pedestrian access in this circumstance.

I can see parked cars all along the wall. That usually means that there's safe pedestrian access - after all, you have to be able to safely step out of your car after parking and approach it later when you're going away.
I agree. Sadly, too many people hold the view that cars should rule the road and pedestrians are inconvenient to share a road with (even though they have just as much of a right to be there). Those car drivers need to stop being so selfish, and of course we really need to urge city and town planners everywhere to make the places where people live and work more pedestrian friendly.
People may not have to cross the road to hit the stops, since the distance was expanded a few months back. I see a sidewalk on the other side of the road, which would allow people to safely hit the stops.
Yeah, I'd say that has safe pedestrian access, from a game standpoint there's the sidewalk which is likely in interaction distance in all games, but the other rule is you should be able to safely touch the waypoint physically and/or walk up to it. And that side of the street seems to be parking spaces, just minus the paint on the ground indicating so (but it does have signs).
Safe pedestrian access does not mean being within interaction range. It means that a player can directly access the lcoation without putting themselves in danger. Thus a sidewalk on the opposite side of the road from the object is meaningless in determining pedestrian access.
As @TheFarix-PGO stated, safe pedestrian access means being able to approach and touch the object. It doesn’t matter if you can interact with it safely in game (e.g. in the middle of a roundabout but you can interact with the POI from a nearby sidewalk). For Ingress, to ultrastrike off shields you pretty much need to stand directly on top of the portal; being 40 metres away is not sufficient. Also, the distance expanding that you refer to was only for PoGo, not other games. For the purposes of determining whether these murals have safe access, the pedestrian sidewalk on the other side of the road is moot.
