Appeals Bug - Temporarily Disabled

Hello Explorers,
A quick update regarding the Appeals feature. We will be temporarily disabling the Appeals feature until further notice while we work on fixing the bug. This means that you won’t be able to make any more appeals until it’s fixed. We will honor all the appeals already submitted, since Dec 8, 2021, and continue reviewing them as planned.
Safe Exploring!

Typed in a hurry? "Continue reviewing them as planned until the bug is fixed" implies that you'd stop reviewing appeals once the bug is fixed. No?
I knew it was coming....
Not true, I just appealed a nomination as a test and it worked out perfectly. So they are not shut down yet.
while we work on fixing the bug
What bug?
:O fortune teller?
Niantic hasnt given out any emails today?
Yes, would be informative to in lyde that instead of refering to it as "the bug"?
I have found another thread mentioning two issues; missing rejection reason and possible to appeal a nomination a day. Might be one of them. But would be Nice with a clarification.
.... wait... i think you're being sarcastic but if you're not, the daily appeals bug. Appeals shouldn't be allowed once per day :)
why not? People keep rejecting my contributions without any hinderance by Niantic on a daily base. I think everyone should be eligible to Appeal this abuse.
My question was sincere :)
Ability to appeal daily was brought up the
firstsecond day of appeals but only recently acknowledged as not being intended. There's also the missing rejection reasoning we should be seeing, which is hopefully being looked at and will be addressed before appeals go back live.
Will appeals be turned back on once the bug is resolved or will the appeal backlog be dressed down, first?
What about the email bug? Since thats the topic you initially posted on (I see now that was deleted)
@NianticTintino
I agree with @rodensteiner-ING statement.
Niantic does not get the abuse of the reviewers or the use of bots under control, so that the number of appeals continues to accumulate. If you can only appeal something once a month, then in 3 years I'll still be sending out appeals from hiking & biking trails and soccer fields that are rejected for some ridiculous reason. And if you then start working on the problem 2 months later, it shouldn't be to the detriment of those who make the effort here!
Do you have an estimate on when we should expect an answer for our appeals? I know the process has slowly started but do you estimate being done in 2 weeks? 1 month? 2 months? Just to get a general idea.
Is the “No emails going out for decisions on Appeals” bug fixed or is that an ongoing issue still?
I'm waiting for an answer to that too. 👀
Does it ever worked? No one I know had any appeal acepted or rejected! The queue was getting too long to handle?
@NianticTintino How about allowing daily appeals on Wayspots nominated before upgrades were a thing? By the time I waited 14-20 months to get a stupid rejection - the joy was gone, and I didn't bother resubmitting. (Why waste a very-limited nomination slot anyways?) Surely there aren't THAT many of us still playing - why not return some joy?
I just had a good laugh thanks :D .
But yes I am unsure what to think about the appeals bug, as it helped me get through a lot of unfairly rejected submissions, but on the other hand the pile must be huge now!
And now you're gonna process those extra appeals of those who abused the bug instead of removing them from the appeals queue.
They will click quickly disagree and claim that it's not fair, that Niantic was aware since day two, etc... But in the end we all knew that it was a bug and the really fair move forward is to reset those extra appeals
I don't know if you can understand making such a statement, but if you do not take measures such as graphing the approval rate by category of judges and increasing the approval rate, the number of appeals will increase.
@NianticTintino
I think it's a lot of work, but do your best as long as you don't overdo it.
Let the appeals stand, but add an additional month of cool down time on to the ability to submit another one for every extra appeal used in addition to the three that would've been possible.
So, say someone has submitted five appeals, they'd have to wait until May to submit a sixth as that would be when their sixth appeal would have been available had the system been working properly.
Why didn't this get fixed day 1? Seems like you've made things hard on yourself through inaction
I totally agree with that.
Daily appeal is maybe too much, but mounthly appel is clearly not enought, as long as biking and hiking trails markers are massively rejected. (about 60% of them get a rejection... despites they are clearly eligible according to the rules).
One appeal per week would be a good balance for that. (or keep one appeal pr month, but allow us to us upgrades to make extra appeal)
The amount of appeals people should have should be based on a Wayfinder's track record. Are they reviewing a lot? What did their first appeals look like? Some people should have a monthly allotment of appeals, while another maybe even weekly. Like how not everyone should not have 40 nominations to begin with.
Agree. If someone has most appeals overturned, give them more appeals.
At the same time , give marks to those who wrongly rejected the overturned appeals and use those stats to educate those involved or stop the actual abusers being able to vote.
Get the stats during the process. Use those stats to better the system
Thank you for the updates!
@NianticTintino I'm in agreement with rodensteiner-ING, Aeryle88-PGO, and BochumJules-PGO. What is Niantic doing to address "rejection abuse?" It might be helpful to make it mandatory to explain the reasoning behind "Other Rejection Criteria." The process could even go one step further if Niantic manually reviewed any decisions using Other Rejection Criteria as the sole reason for rejection.
This is also a great idea! It gives dedicated players a way to appeal legitimate submissions that are rejected for ridiculous or unexplained reasons, which seems to be a big problem based on the other responses in this thread. It would also curate the manual work required on Niantic's side, as dedicated players with legitimate nominations are more likely to do the reviewing work required to submit multiple appeals.
I'm on the same page here. One appeal per week is more reasonable for those of us who are committed to encouraging players to utilize outdoor spaces. I've been really disappointed by rejections of legitimate submissions for public hiking and biking trails in places with very low wayspot density. It's even more frustrating when many urban stops on private property with plenty of stops nearby are approved left and right.
I think you shouldn't be able to appeal nominations made less than 6 months ago.
If your turnaround is that fast, go back and re-nominate it. Try something different / better.
After six months more experience, maybe you won't appeal it after all.
AND this would level the playing field a bit, with those of us who never see nominations resolved before 9 months or a year.
@MargariteDVille-ING been there, done that, not doing it again.
when you have re-submitted something 4 times, and it still gets rejected, you know that this isnt supposed to be a wayspot in the eyes of most of the reviewers. That means, if you still believe in the contribution, you HAVE to appeal the decisions made by the "communiteh".
@MargariteDVille-ING @rodensteiner-ING I'm not sure this is the perfect thread for this question, but do you know what the rules and etiquette are for resubmitting stops?
at a certain point people get p** when you re-submit the same thing again and again
