"api.validation.manage.description.bad.words" message when text is fine

Hi! π
This bug seems to be coming back so now I decided to report if through here.
I submitted a memorial yesterday and wanted to improve the text a bit today, and then when I tried to save, this:
"api.validation.manage.description.bad.words" - but not a bad word in sight.
I was struggling with this also trying to submit 'on location' both yesterday and the day before.
This bug was first bugging around Feb. 11th and then seemed fixed, but now it is active again and making it quite hard to produce quality Wayspot nominations. π₯
For instance, in this example with the memorial, I was at the location for other reasons than Wayfarer ones. π I still managed to submit this memorial though, since I thought it was really neat. I just thought I would edit and refine the description and supp. info later on, but now I can't.
I hope this will be fixed for good, and soon. Nominations in the area from this example go into voting quite quickly without upgrade, so I like my nominations to be "ready" as quick as possible.
Wonder how many others have gotten this error message? π
And thanks in advance for looking into this. ποΈ

Forgot to add: Android-user (Oneplus 8 Pro) vers. 11. If that helps. π
However, the problem is the same with pc browser, so π€·
I can't find a bad word in the description, but the filter is very agressive and the blocked words don't make sense sometimes. So I would advise to copy the description you want to submit and divide it into multiple parts. Try to submit part one, if it's saved try part one + part two and so on. As soon as you get the error message, you know which part is responsible and you can check the words in this part. Delete the last word, try to submit and if you still get the error delete another word till you know what cause this issue. Then you have to replace this word. I know it's a little bit of work and it would be better if the error message would say what word is causing the issue, but it is how it is. Good luck π
Yeah, the bad word filter filters out completely normal words as well. For example, GyΓΆrgy - the Hungarian version of the name "George" - is on the banlist, because the last 4 letters, without the umlaut, have an adult meaning in English. It's a quite common name and there are lots of historical figures and artists whose name can't be included in titles or descriptions because of this.
Thanks for the advice, I might do that (again), but Niantic admitted to it being a bug in February on Twitter (as a reply to me and others). π And in the long run, it is not an acceptable solution, so that's why I came here with it, to try and get them to fix the bug. π€
I should add, this is not something that comes along regularly. I've only just experienced these error messages in 2022.
A problem with dividing the text and finding the 'culprit' would be that the word is essential for the whole meaning. I think it would be better to tackle the issues with the bug (or the problem with the filter?) than to change optimal descriptions into less good ones, only to please a filter that is not working properly.
I definitely agree. It's just a temorary solution, a quick fix. The issue has been brought up a couple of times now, but it feels like nothing really changes. We have some common words in german that are blocked and even though this thread was posted in June 2021, most of the words are still blocked: German Badwordfilter problems β Wayfarer (nianticlabs.com)
The Holocaust and Nazi time is a big and dark chapter in german history, still some of the words are blocked (At least they were half a year ago). I understand the reason why, but it's not good to just ignore these things happened.
Even if the banned word is really important to the meaning, it can usually be described in some other way, though. I agree that this issue should be dealt with, but until that happens, it's much faster to just leave the problematic word out of the text.
The filter isn't really a bug, but it's really an annoying issue. The filter search for a string containing any bad words even if the word(s) are separated by a space, just like this:
I will have to argue there is a bug here, since it comes and goes. In february, I could not save a description at one point, then I left it for a couple of hours, then tried again and was able to save without any issues. That to me would indicate a bug, not a consistenly 'wrong' filter.
I hope it makes sense when I try to explain it in English, having enough trouble even trying to describe this in Danish. π
I had the exact same problem just now ( was on my way to report it here) the culprit for me was: i
... That's it!
Wow π
Oh, so I misunderstood. Seems like a general problem then...Who would have thought π±
Sometimes it wouldn't let you save it, when a log-out occured while you were editing your nominations. But this is like a different bug it seems. Also, I don't think there is a error message for bad words in the title...or am I wrong? I don't have any nomination to test it out π€
I'm actually not sure about the error when it comes to title. I may run some tests later on if I can find the time. π
RIP. This was really not the description I wanted. π
