Remember that acceptance/rejection is for the whole nomination, not just the subject. Matters such as ineligible text, inaccurate pin location, and poor quality images can generate a rejection of an eligible subject.
I don’t know what a “gnome garden” is, and I’d bet some of your reviewers don’t either, so the text would probably need to be pretty informative, explaining just what it is and why it’s relevant to the community. But if you’re willing, you can go to the Nomination Improvement forum, post your full nomination (images, all texts, pin location, rejection reasons) and get more detailed feedback from experienced reviewers.
As for trail markers, you’re free to poke around the forums and find one argument after the next about low-quality, generic, mass-produced, uninteresting, I-can’t-believe-I-got-another-one-to-review-this-is-my-75th-one-today, trail marker (and/or ‘emergency location sign near a trail’) submissions. It comes up a lot. A. LOT.

Who knows. Maybe there’s a Simpsons image awaiting approval to go into this thread. 👀

Surely the town gnome is an easily removable object and thus temporary?
Can you share your nomination and the trailmarker you note was accepted?
