Irrigation system pumps in rural areas?

What is the community's stance on irrigation pumps? In a local group the question came up when a player complained about seeing dozens of them (concrete box, with a metal hatch, sometimes w pipes sticking out) come through. No information aside from saying it's a pump. They had 1* them as not meeting criteria/mass produced.

Someone got into the discussion claiming that the first person should approve them if they did not want to see their rating drop, because that's something that gets approved in their country, per agreement in the local community.

When asked about it the answers was more or less "we've decided to approve them, that's just how it is here" and that Niantics guidelines and criteria didn't really matter since they weren't outright ineligible.

Should they be approved? And in that case, under what criterias? Or are they really 1* mass produced generic infrastructure?

Do you have an example of one that they think might be eligible?

Unless there is some historic significance about the pump, it wouldn't be eligible. Generic irrigation systems, including pumps, are just that, generic infrastructure.

There has to be something notable about it for it to be acceptable.

It sounds like that community are making up their own rules and not abiding by the guidelines.

If they have issues and really want it to be acceptable, they should prove why it should be considered eligible with citations from the guidelines/AMA's.

I tried uploading here but it didn't seem to work, so here's an Imgur link: https://imgur.com/a/oriO4q1

This is one posted in the discussion, apparently they've been approving them, think just because Niantic doesn't remove them they are good POI.

Imo they are horrible POI but I guess I just needed to hear from someone else that I wasn't totally in the wrong.

Unless they meet the criteria, they are not eligible. You should not be approving things that clearly do not meet the criteria.

This is one of them. I can't see anything POI worthy here but some are adamant these are good POI and they approve them locally, claiming since Niantic doesn't remove them it makes them good POI. Just wanted to know what the community thought, even thought I am 100% this is a really bad POI.

Yeah not a good POI. And unfortunately , it's very hard to get some things removed. Unless it hits certain criteria set by Niantic, it doesn't get removed. In other words, they don't necessarily remove all bad POIs. Someone here knows criteria for removal- blocking emergency services, no pedestrian access, private property, grounds of k-12 school are a few.

So when its something like this- something that doesn't meet criteria- but it doesn't hit any of the removal reasons, it stays 😑

I will pink @NianticCasey-ING and see if this can be looked into as abuse. Because if people are systematicly trying to influence others into accepting things that are clearly not eligible, then it is abuse.
