Difference between a gazebo and a pavilion

How can you tell the difference between a gazebo and a pavilion? When I review both, whichever of the two the submitter claims it to be is the one I always assume it is, because I don't know any better.
What is the difference between the two?

Not even Wikipedia will give you a full and definitive answer, but in the most general of terms, A gazebo is a pavilion, but is usually more "decorative".

If a gazebo could count as a more decorative pavilion, then at many cases, both could be correct for each nomination that is either one of the two. Not always tho. Your answer sound like it could make sense.
gazebos are usually, but not always, a certain shape. like circular, octogonal, etc. pavilions might be more rectangular or square. gazebos also tend to have a little fence around them, but not always.
Gazebos are smaller, and open on all sides (not connected to restrooms or anything). A gazebo might fit one picnic table, but rarely has even one. Gazebos often have benches around the outer sides. Usually a peaked roof. Sometimes latticework. Usually round or round-like (hexagonal, etc).
A pavilion is bigger and more multi-functional.
gazebo is usually small and round that you can sit in and a pavilion is usually bigger and longer that you can fit picnic tables under them. that how I usually look at it.
I have no idea either but was to ashamed to ask. Thank you op. LOL
I was for some reason also too afraid to talk in these forums because of anxiety. I thought, what is the worst thing that can happen, you know...
