Do URLs in the main photo make nominations ineligible?

Spakulator-PGOSpakulator-PGO Posts: 56 ✭✭✭

I know URLs in the title/description are not ok, but what about on a sign in the photo? I have had a community center rejected 3 times now and they have the URL for their nonprofit foundation on the sign.

Looks fine to me from a 'URL in the picture' standpoint. It would be different if it was a superimposed watermark of a URL there for promotion or a temporary sign with a URL in the photo's frame.

URLs on a sign shouldn't be a problem. But nonprofit foundations are not eligible on their own either.

It isn't just a nonprofit, it is a community center that does events/activites/training/classes for the community.

Although in addition to the url rejections, it has also been tagged as "generic business" >.<

Can you post the submission photos and text? There might be something that reviewers are seeing.

Looking at the website, this doesn't appear to be a community center, but rather a drug rehabilitation clinic. That may be why it is getting rejected.

It is not a rehab clinic, has no beds, no therapists. It is a community center that's mission is drug abuse treatment and prevention. They host sober events and activities for the community, plan to do live music (the community center is fairly new and open late last year, and since restrictions they have not been able to do any music yet), offer classes and trainings for those recovering from substance abuse (thinking cooking classes, budgeting, learning skills for employment). So yes, it is eligible. Here is a quote from one of the nonprofit founders.

"The goal is to put on the first event by September. They envision a safe haven which will offer a plethora of resources. “We’ve had people that want to teach cooking. We have people that want to teach budgeting, gardening, farming, art, meditation, yoga,” said Dawn.

I work as a substance abuse counselor so I might be biased 🙂

But it really depends on the nature of this place. I have not looked at the website. But from my experience there are some community centers in my area where people in recovery can go to literally just hang out. They have games/activities there, art supplies, etc. You don't even necessarily need to be an addict to go there and hang out. Heck we even have a night club/lounge for people in recovery. We have a lot of addiction issues, clearly. Stuff like THIS- I could be convinced of it's eligibility if the submission was done well.

However- if it's an inpatient rehab or you need to be a patient to go there, I don't think it really qualifies. The "community gathering" aspect is a big part of it for me. I think ALL treatment centers are great and necessary- but with my latter examples, I don't think it really fits with the criteria niantic wants.

Edited just to add to the actual question: agreed with the other posts. If it's a URL on the sign for the wayspot, that's ok. They just don't want people putting URLs in the title/description.

That first paragraph... why isn't that reflected in your description & supporting information?

Honestly, my first thought when you started this thread was "why are you submitting a sign," and after you posted the screenshots it became "when there's a gorgeous building behind it?"

Submitting a picture of the building would remove the URL from even being a concern. If you still want some of the sign in focus, do a photo framed like the one on their website that removes focus from the website.

Assuming that information is accurate, I would suggest trying to better reflect that in the nomination. Simply being "a place people gather for events" still sounds generic, but if you could explain more of those events, like you just did, it will help better support your claim of it being (locally) culturally significant. Your "parking" claim could be rephrased as "safely located in a converted church building with well maintained access."

I hope this helps. Remember that most people will vote in line of the first impression and consider everything a generic business until explained otherwise.

I have in previous submissions, but since this is my third attempt I'm probably just going to give up. Honestly after waves of rejections on eligible waypoints I'm just going to stop submitting and reviewing, wayfarer is a nightmare and disaster.
