Indoor pool in recreation center
I need opinions good or bad; do you think this indoor pool in a recreation center will get approved? Frankly I’m worried reviewers will reject because of the condo buildings around it. However the sign is a stop and so is the
fountain in the pond, marked above. The black x is where the indoor pool is. I know pools are dodgy but I just need one stop in the cell to trigger a gym, the rec sign is in a different cell then the fountain. This stop would be in the fountain’s cell.
Below is the google map location and screen shots of my nomination.

Those are third party photos from the rec center site (5 and 6 from the roll)?
Assuming no issues with the photos (that is, make sure to use your own photos), this should be fine. Even though it's indoors, reviewers can use the skylight to match with satellite view. You could even add something like "Skylight in the main photo can be used for location confirmation on satellite view."
Maybe avoid "neighbors" since that makes it sound more like an apartment complex/housing subdivision. Or something like "... neighbors from all over the city of Glenview" to emphasize that it is municipal. (I'm assuming they don't let Northbrookers in? 🤣)
Wait, is this really even municipal? Or is the housing development just large and upscale enough to have its own rec center? This definitely seems like a borderline case.
Your text is unfocused and confusing. A pool is not “a great place to relax and meet up with friends and neighbors.” That is a socialization statement, and a pool is a great place to exercise. Really, the phrase “a great place to relax and meet up with friends and neighbors” alone makes me want to vote against it because it’s buzzwords without meaning. Your supporting info further muddies the nomination by bringing in discussion of guests and then makes things even less clear by discussing the backyard, which isn’t relevant to the pool at all, but the rec center as a whole (which seems to already be a POI, setting you up for a “duplicate” rejection).
If the nomination is the pool, add text about the pool: the features of the pool, the depth of the deep end, that “island” design in the center of it… your text should bring the reviewer’s mind to the pool, not take the focus away.
But that’s rather window dressing, if you used third party images.
Is it restricted to people who live in the condo (and their guests)? Or is it open to the public? Can anyone drive up, park, and swim?
Does it have a lifeguard?
If it's open to the public and has a life guard, then it's probably fine.
Pools are very litigations in the U.S. I bet Niantic lawyers and insurance want them to stay away from them.
I don't love the exact wording of how it's a great place to meet up with friends and neighbors but are you suggesting that it isn't true? I'm not sure how you'd come to that conclusion, that pool looks like a great place to meet up with friends and neighbors. It's not like pools are exclusively for exercise and claiming anything else is false.
According to this thread it will be fine going by the official AMA it won't be.
I’m saying it’s meaningless drivel and derails the thrust of what a pool nomination should put forth.
So it’s already been declined for other criteria; absolutely fine with be, I want to redo it but with a photo from my phone. I want the picture to match the rec center’s website. Two I say it’s a great place to hangout because of the layout area. There is a patio withtables and chairs. I’ve watched plenty of families swim and then eat snacks together on the patio. The patio is open in the all year with the pool too. Just my thoughts.
Also it is open to the public and has a lifeguard
I think it should be fine then. Something good to mention at least in supporting.
The official website pic is good with its angle showing the unusual pool shape and the skylight. Hopefully you can capture that same idea without people in the way. Good luck!
Go at opening so there will be less chance of people already set on swimming. Helps to mention what Melurra observed from the photo.
Maximize all their rec rooms too. There also is a table tennis room, billiards, conference and party rooms. Regard them as standalone points 0f interests if you choose to. May be on empty cells depending on the layout, reference each nomination in your supporting photo relative to existing POI or do photospheres since its indoors. Happy hunting as well!
It’s kind of hard to get a photo with out people in the pool. Did I do better?!? I really appreciate everyone’s input. All comments are so helpful and insightful.
This looks like an improvement to me. In your screenshot, I couldn't even tell that those two dots to the right of the island were people, so I assume you can't see faces if you zoom on the main pic. Good luck!
Remove any mention of kids. People always are looking for any reason to reject nominations.
This nomination is improved in basically every way over the previous. Well done.
Other than the [kid's pool < shallow pool/wading pool], {imagine "when the sun hits the ridge just right" meme here, in case it isn't allowed}
Best of luck!
