living objects in the environment image

why can contributions be rejected based on the environment image? On the main photo, which would ultimately also be the visible photo, there was no animal to be seen, only the object itself (an art installation). on the environment photo, which is actually intended to serve the community the possibility to be able to see whether the environment e.g. is safe to walk on, however, a stray cat could be seen somewhere on the edge. My entire submission was rejected on the grounds that there was a living object/animal in the image. Does the Environment image, even though it is not published, have to meet the same criteria as the main image?

No, it doesn't. Reviewers should not reject on the basis of the supplemental photo unless the submitter is identifiable or the photo contains a codeword or code symbol. A codeword or symbol is something that signals certain reviewers to accept a nomination, like if a trainer wants to tell their group "this nomination came from me" by putting an Eevee plushie in every supplemental photo.
