Electric Car Charging Stations

I rejected this, because (aside from the unnecessary politics in the description) I could not determine any criteria that it meets. This particular submission is really trying to stretch the historical significance, too. Aside from the specific issues with this one submission, does anyone have any compelling argument for accepting these?

This was asked a while back during the Ingress AMAs.
Q56: Are charging stations for electric cars suitable as portals? In my opinion they encourage a cleaner environment…
A56: While admirable, the guidance I was given to pass along is that they are not eligible unless they have some sort of unique art associated with them. Otherwise, they are essentially the same thing as a gas/petrol filling station.
Simply existing wouldn't be enough to qualify unless it was artistic in some way. I've also seen educational signage associated with the merits of electric cars that I would consider eligible.

Gasstations aren't waypoints either
There is absolutely no reason to accept them. They don't meet any criteria. Arguing for these to be approved would be like arguing for a petrol station (gas station for the US English speakers) to be approved.
