Pokémon GO Nomination Level Update - Discussion

Hello Explorers,
As you may have seen, there’s been an update to the level requirement for Wayspot nominations from Pokémon GO Trainers. Previously, Trainers had to be level 38 or higher to become Explorers, however, starting today, Trainers will now need to be at least level 37 to make Wayspot nominations! We’re excited for the update and hope you’ll help us welcome new explorers into the community! This update will be available to all trainers over the course of several weeks, we ask for your patience as it rolls out.
Check out the original post here.
Safe Exploring!

To be honest I'm not entirely sure why there is a level cap.
It's not like playing Pogo for longer makes you a better explorer. Admittedly it may mean you see more wayspots but a lot of those will be benches added by Ingress players in ye olden dayes.
Why even bother with a level cap now? 37 is so easy to reach
When does the Ingress level get lowered too?
Let everyone who creates a new account have access right away.
Please!
My cat account needs to submit some things. As does my Grandma on her 'account'
Also my Grandma's cat account and my cat's grandma's account need to submit stuff.
Eh, I know people are critical of lower the cap again, but there isn’t too much of a difference between 38 and 37. I don’t see this causing much of an increase in the (admittedly still rather long) backlog. Making any new account eligible to participate in wayfarer is just asking for abuse though.
Hopefully things like contests and potential future plans can alleviate wait times.
As someone who was looking forward to getting to level 38 and am over halfway through 37, I'm very glad for this update and I've been looking forward to making contributions and helping with reviewing submissions.
I do think there should be a level minimum for this, for multiple account abuse and to make sure it's more active/serious players who will be more likely to put in effort for making good submissions. I don't see any particular downside to lowering the level from 38 to 37, either way it takes time and effort to reach and shows some level of commitment.
You should do something to increase reviewers (and their quality) not submitters.
Removing the level cap is bittersweet. At least, it will help a lot of players in foreign countries will be able to submit new nominations to improve their Niantic game experiences. It just sucks that we will likely get more coal again. Yes, players do need to pass the test in order to submit new nomination, but there is still coal coming through.
That's one more than the amount of Ingress players across the globe ;)
@NianticTintino
What is that supposed to bring? Wayfarer needs trained reviewers who are familiar with the criteria and have an eye for locations being accurate and not fake. Now there are EVEN MORE PLAYERS turning in their flowerpots in the front yard and stuffing the pool with even more trash without progressing. Great move, why does Niantic always have to turn the wrong screws?
Niantic should provide a wider guide for players to be educated in terms of nominating and not only reviewing before allowing nominations for lower level players.
Umm this is not okay with me. They wayfarer community is already bad at choosing. They cut many wayspots that shouldn't be cut. Wayfarer needs trained reviewers that have experience.
Great -- more rocks, street signs and generic businesses to review. And clogging up the review process even further.
@NianticTintino What is your plan for educating all of these new submitters? I'm not looking forward to reviewing a whole bunch of fire hydrants, fast food drive-thru menus, and things in people's back yards.
@NianticTintino I'm begging you, if you want to add more new Wayfinders then at least please adjust removal criteria effectively. 9.5M exp (less than half of total exp required to level 40) is even easier to reach now.
You don't wish these newly Wayfinders add more Schrödinger Wayspots into Lightship database, right?
Great question! We're definitely interested in growing our community so we will be in conversations with game teams. No official response from other teams yet but we'll keep you posted.
Do you think location edits in Ingress can also be lowered as well for consistency? Current situation:
Pokemon GO:
Ingress:
I think this is what it looks like at the moment.
Oh great! Now it will be easier for multi-accounters to manipulate the gameboard, nice job, thanks.
Hello, i'm level 37 but still can't access the pokestop nomination, what should I do?
It’s mentioned to be rolling out, so you’ll have access Soon™️
On ingress the players when they manage to pop a portal they have rewards, on Pokemon Go we do it voluntarily it's really not motivating 😩
How do you mean “pop a portal”? The reward is a key for the portal, and we are all doing it voluntarily?
Unless you mean the 1,000 AP? But you can’t really complain about that when Pokémon GO rewards you for levelling up your friendships via gifts with tons of XP?
I may be mistaken, but that decision gets made from the Ingress side. It can certainly be suggested from Wayfarer (and is easier to push for since Ingress is a Niantic IP) but there would also have to be a need and a push for this from the Ingress side.
My email says you commented it’s the 1,000 AP but for Pokémon GO, you get 100,000 XP for becoming Best Friends and 3,000 XP for completing the lowest tier raid. You’re not short on ways to get XP
You don’t need extra XP or extra rewards for Pokémon GO Wayfarers.
This is beginning to turn into a screed about pokemon go which is probably more appropriate for a subreddit
Part of the issue here is that I play both Ingress and Pokémon Go, but submit through Pokémon Go. I don't get rewarded in Ingress for any accepted wayspots that go live as Portals as a result of this, which I do think is a little unfair. My account uses the same login credentials, and I get credit towards the reviewing medal within Ingress despite not submitting through that game, so it would be nice to also have my contributions to the Portal network recognised in the same manner that other agents get when they submit through Ingress.
I see your point about Pokémon Go and agree that XP is fairly easy to get (I actually think a small amount of stardust would be a more fitting reward if there ever was to be a reward), but honestly, even without that, it would be nice if we got given a gift to send to friends from our new Pokéstops (that's about the closest item we have to Portal Keys). Just a little something to say thanks, and to also confirm the stop is live within Pokémon Go.
Yes, i speak about 1000 AP
