Local cemetery became a gym in pokemon go

The local cemetery used to be a stop, you couldn't reach it without actually getting on the property, even now. This was never really a problem for the pokemon go players, they just spun the stop once to get rid of the halo, and done.
However with the addition of a few stops this stop has now turned into a gym. People feel this is a problem.
I would suggest first and foremost that Niantic doesn't turn waypoints that are marked as cemeteries into gyms. Second, could you please turn this gym back into a stop.

You can't. Even if you request in-game, it still doesn't meet any criteria for removal.
Try to approach any manager of that cemetery and ask them to request Wayspot removal. The form should be in Niantic Support page.
At least I can ask Niantic to stop turning active cemeteries into gyms.
They didn't the players did. The system will automatically upgrade a stop to a gym with there are enough new waypoints nearby. The waypoint with the higher photo score (photos+upvotes on the photo) in ingress becomes a gym.
I would agree the situation is lame, I have the exact same problem in my area because the wayfarer in the town also did not know about photo scores when they started submitting. Now the area is stuck with a useless gym and nothing can be done about it.
I thought the oldest stop was upgraded to a gym.
As wayfarers we determine what kind of object/place the stop is. I think it wouldn't be to hard for Niantic to code 'if waypoint_type == cemetery convert to gym = no'
I think for now the best thing to do is to request a relocation of the gym to a place near the cemetery but not in the way of burials.
Nope it upgrades the waypoint with the higher photo score in the s14 cell.
Not every waypoint is tagged, nor correctly so I don't think they could remove all cemetery gyms. They have clarified they don't want cemeteries or graves as submissions without historical or cultural significance, but if the waypoint was already there it will be almost impossible to remove it.
Best of luck. The cemetery the gym is at in my area doesnt really have a better location to edit it to, and I never get decisions on my edits so for me an edit is out of the question. The gym is just there and the cell ruined.
In this case the cemetery was the only stop in the cell, then another got added.
Good thing I have both Pogo and Ingress, I can upvote photo's first :-)
IMHO the best thing you can do is to ask for a relocation so that the gym is reachable without actually entering the cemetery.
