Lost a Long Term Pokémon Stop Inexplicably — Linked to TCG temp stop removal?

A longtime Pokémon stop in North America’s second largest shopping centre has inexplicably disappeared from Pogo. It is in a very publicly accessible location and has not moved according to the Ingress Intel map. There are still dozens of other wayspots nearby that are unaffected and there was no stop that came up in replace the removed stop.

The stop in question is called “Ice Palace”and can be found at https://intel.ingress.com/intel?pll=53.522396,-113.622478&z=17

The only thing we can think of was there was a TCG temporary stop located very close by that also was removed after the Season of Go.

Once again, the wayspot has not been removed or physically moved (unless there is a sync delay) nor should there be any reason for that to happen. The overall mall location is also a Community Day venue listed on the Niantic events map.

So looking at the Intel Map, there are 3 wayspots in the level 17 S2 cell in question (Ice Palace, Ice Skating Statue and Three Trees). I'm going to assume that either the statue or the trees are also live in Pokémon Go and that you had an overloaded cell. As a result, when the temporary stop was added and it was too close to Ice Palace, that caused Ice Palace to disappear from Pokémon Go, but once the temporary stop was removed, Ice Palace couldn't reappear as the cell was still already occupied by one (or both) of the other two wayspots in Pokémon Go. That's not a bug, it's intended that cells only have one Pokéstop or Gym in them, and edits to wayspots in cells that break this rule can result in the cell being updated to follow the rules.

No… none of the other two eligible in the cell became a stop. The stop just vaporized when it shouldn’t have. Believe me, I’m well aware of how stops and gyms are created. I’m at near 1200 wayspots created and would estimate 1160 are in Pogo and 40 are just portals.

As for the validity of the wayspot, it’s an ice rink in the heart of what is now North America’s second largest mall. An Olympic silver medalist from 2016 used to train in front of hundreds of shoppers who walked by daily. It’s surrounded by stores and food kiosks on two levels all around it within 15m of the boards.

If neither of the others are live in Pokémon Go and the cell is now empty in that game (including not having any other sponsored stops), then yes, you're correct that one of them should have appeared when the temporary stop disappeared. Maybe there's a sync issue, or maybe it's a different issue. Have you tried up voting pictures on one of the Portals and seeing if it forces it to appear in Pokémon Go? That has occasionally worked in the past, though it's no guarantee it will work for this. Otherwise an accepted edit to one of the wayspots may have a similar effect, though if you're in an area where edits take a long time (and there's no edits you can do to legitimately improve the wayspots), then I wouldn't advise it.

It just happened in the past day. Likely changed over Sunday late afternoon or Monday morning when TCG stops were removed.

While i have used the pogo photo upvote tactic in the past (even within the past week) to force a sync to Ingress, I can’t upvote a stop that doesn’t exist. Upvotes in Ingress have had zero effect lately in Pogo. For example, there’s a wayspot edit I submitted for a move over 15m on here that was approved months ago. We upvoted a new photo (sign of business was different in new location) in Ingress after it was approved —the upvoted photo shows correctly in Ingress. No change of the photo disc in pogo despite the photo showing in the history We upvoted the photo in Pogo. No change in Pogo after weeks.

I have another instance like this locally. Have had to do separate title, description, and photo edits on one space that had a mural changed. Three separate edits approved at different times. Now we’ve managed to get it all approved, the photo still won’t change over in Pogo. We’ve tried submitting more photos in the past month with Pogo accounts and Ingress accounts; they get approved and then we try upvoting in both games… no change. We have a large community of Pogo players and a smaller group of us that play both Pogo and Ingress.

Not sure what happened but the missing Pokestop reappeared this week as if nothing happened. Same photo, same description.

Obviously some database or sync error that took two months to rectify?
