Anything I could do to improve this?
I thought it was a shoe in as a unique local restaurant with a long standing history... but I guess it didn't qualify because of... "Other Rejection Criteria" Honestly any suggestions would be appreciated. Its been the longest running food place and we didn't even have a Mc Donald's until 2002 i think.

Honestly most of what's in your Supporting text should have been in your description.
A photo of the building itself might have been better, too.
I wouldn’t upgrade it. Your local reviewers have a better understanding of local hotspots.
You could nominate the guy at the top of the sign as kitchy art, OR nominate the restaurant as a local hot spot. I think the restaurant itself has a better chance.
I agree that some info from Supporting should go into the Description. If they host any events, includ that. Say that people gather there - not in those exact words, but more explicitly than you did. Do sports teams go there after a game? Any kind of a tradition?
"Local hot spots" are probably the hardest category to get accepted. Are there any news articles about it or official reviews you could add links to in the supplemental information? I agree with the advice to not use an upgrade if you can do without one.
I disagree that the guy on the sign is eligible.
My thoughts could be because your supporting pic has license plates in it, and we are supposed to reject anything like that. I'd take a picture of the sign with the building in the back ground, and improve your secondary photo and description.
The main photo isn’t great but there are no license plates in it.
@NastyNags69-PGO
the purpose of the supporting photo is to help show the reviewer the poi in the context of its surroundings to help confirm where it is. Having licence plates or people in the supporting photo is perfectly fine. These are not photos that are going to be used in the game.
@Minoxen-PGO Hello and welcome
You will get a range of views on the main photo - no one is right. But do get it as straight as you can and keep non relevant stuff to minimum. I manipulated your photo to illustrate what I mean
now the name of the place is the clear focus so it much more striking. The same would apply if it had more of the building make sure the name is very clear.
For the supplementary perhaps take it from a different viewpoint to avoid having Macdonalds in background. It shouldn’t matter but this is not an easy sell and having the zMac in the background plants the idea of an ordinary chain.
in the supplementary info include links to any websites that show backup what you say
The photo rules only apply to the main photo please don’t reject nominations with supporting photos that have license plates, are low quality (unless they don’t help show the location) or any other photo rejection reasons. The main photo is the only one that shows in game and only one those rules should apply to.
I don't reject based on low quality secondary photos or photos with license plates or people in them. That's just my guess because we all know there are bad reviewers out there
Wow, Thanks everyone I appreciate all the help and suggestions!
OH, I thought upgrading it just got it up for review quicker.. I didn't realize it opened it to a larger pool of reviewers.
The building itself doesn't have any name or use of the logo and is under renovation so I didn't think a building shot would be better than the sign. Which I wish I could have been more elevated to take the shot of, but its a hard spot to get unless I edit the picture.
Thanks for the tips, Are we allowed to edit the photos to clean them up like this? I always try for the best "raw" shot I can get, but if I can Crop some that would be handy. I'll be sure to add some links. By the way, the phone submittal always has less total words available than if I edit them on the Niantic site.. Do they get to the reviewer with the full text if I edit them beyond the phone limit?
You definitely can crop and apply minor adjustments. I use the basic tilt and perspective adjustment tools on my phone frequently to help square up photos. Just don't start drawing over or heavily editing it.
I forgot to share this link. It's written by reviewers and submitters and includes examples of nominations. Yours (visually) reminds me of the Burger King nomination that was submitted by a friend of mine and I helped with the text.
Good luck!
The full edited text is what reviewers see. So it is a great chance to make sure that title and description is good and putin links etc…….but keep it to the point. Stay focussed that you are trying to show why this meets the criteria.
@Elijustrying-ING thanks for clarifying on the edited text. I really wish they would give the full word count when submitting on a device to avoid cut-offs or poor details.
They do give the count when you edit
