Rejection Fatigue
I've tried to be a good steward. My rating is in the Great range. Everything I've nominated and everything I've flagged for removal has been rejected. One of those nominations could have been better, but the others were rejected for reasons that made absolutely no sense given both the photographic evidence and a cursory glance at the google info provided. The ones that I've appealed have lingered for half the year with no indication that they'll ever be looked at.
I don't want to contribute anymore. I see some of the same nominations over and over again that clearly have no legitimate purpose for being re-submitted, while my own nominations and appeals languish. I'm not going to play the game of burning through my block of nominations on a single location in hopes that one of them gets approved.
I only mention all of this because I feel like someone at Niantic should know the process is not rewarding in any way if they don't already know. The upgrade process is a slow grind and if each nomination requires an appeal that will just sit idle, why even bother to do the grind?
For now, I'll take a break. When my appeals are finally addressed, I'll re-evaluate my position then.

You could try posting something you are considering submitting in here to get advice this before you submit.
The are people with hundreds, thousands of accepted reviews and submissions who are usually willing to help.
I am only a mere rookie with 250 accepted and 20 thousandish reviews but would be happy to add my thoughts if you think it would be useful.
Niantic happens to have an open survey. How about share your experience there?

Hello Explorers,
As some of you may have seen by now, we've shipped a new Wayfarer Survey! This survey will have come to you via email and will be arriving in waves throughout the next 48 hours. This survey will ask you about your journey into Wayfarer, how it's been going, improvements, etc. We appreciate your honest feedback in the survey as it'll help shape our 2023 Wayfarer roadmap.
If you do not get the email within the next two days or simply can't wait to give us feedback, please find the link below:
Wayfarer Survey
We appreciate your support in mapping out Wayfarer 2023!
Safe Exploring!
It's not so much asking what everyone thinks of a possible submission ... it's the entirety of the process. For instance, allow an upgrade to escalate an appeal. It's the fact that I see the same nominations over and over again that should be denied (the person with the water fountain in the middle of a pond) and that same person complain on here that they don't understand why it keeps getting rejected ... Honestly, I don't know where to go with this other then suggest that the current process is broken (at least to me).
The survey won't allow more responses (it's reached its limit).
Fair enough. The system has reached a point where it needs to change and be fixed or grind to a slow halt.
I feel the same.
In the beginning, it was fun seeing all the submitted stuff and where they were. But currently, voting feels like a chore, and earning the update after reviewing 100 nominations where 70 of them are pretty much the same boring stuff over and over (trails markers, graffiti, mailboxes, informative plaques, etc) is such a small reward for so much ****. Especially when we later see that most of our upgrades are quickly wasted by unfair rejections.
I've found the best remedy for burnout is to step back and stop reviewing...and discontinue spending any in-game money.
Yeah I totally get where are coming from.
My solution for myself was to cut down. Nominating roughly 1 a month.
I set an email filter for wayfarer notices so I wouldn't see any rejection notices in my inbox to spoil my day.
Reviewing ... I'll do maybe 20 a month ... got the top tier medal in pogo .... But that was awarded at 1/10th of the way of a ingress top tier wayfarer medal .... So I kinda done my bit.
