Some fool didn't look at the nomination.
Sometimes reviewers choose random reasons or don't understand the meaning of what they're choosing. When this happens, it's best to ignore that reason and focus on the ones that make sense.
In this case "Other Rejection Criteria" mean reviewers don't think it's a "great place to exercise, socialize, or explore". Unfortunately, your reviewers don't accept that a cafe is a great place to socialize. If you can find official reviews noting the cafe's popularity or information about events there, that may increase your chances.
Thanks @JillJilyJabadoo-PGO
The other reasons is hard. I wish Niantic addressed that one better. For explore. It is the only cafe on this section of walk from Sourth Maroubra to La Perouse.
Secondly the social. Bit. I totally get you. The reviewers don't get it nor understand the criteria..
It is where I go. Our rescue crew go for brekkie or lunch. I meet locals there. It is a great place to watch the Local Bay, surfing and the like. And yes there are at least three ohter places 500m up the road I can get a bacon and egg roll. But at least this one is decent. And the Niantic Criteria state
""A favorite gathering place for friends or strangers alike, where you can share a drink or meal, be entertained, or watch public life happen. "'
This is a second cafe that is continually rejected. Regularly. The other I am even told to nominate another cafe that they say has great reviews. But that cafe is not my cafe. I am not the mercedes bmw crowd. I am the take kids to tennis, sit and chill with coffee watching. And the food after a game is great. As other families are doing. Players and local community. Clearly meets the guidelines. I am not nominating because I need to. I am nominating as it is my local cafe. And I get frustrated that is rejected for what I believe are spurious reasons.
OMG @JillJilyJabadoo-PGO I am venting. Sorry :-( My bad.
It s a beautiful day. Just had a 3 hour walk and PGO expidition. Hope your day is fab too. And everyone else who read this :-)
I think a photo of the outside of the building for your primary photo would be more likely to be approved.
Good nomination, otherwise. Maybe elaborate on something unique about the cafe? A favorite drink or social event it hosts?
@Gendgi-PGO Fair Point. AND Thank you.
I was trying to get a shot of what it is like sitting in looking out over the bay. Besides. This place has the shoddiest paint job on the outside :-)
I was told once - several times - that your best shot can be for main and the supporting shot just that supporting. But as you point out. I need to support the reviewers ;-)
Haha. No problem. I personally don't understand how cafes aren't auto-accepts for "great place to socialize" in areas where all pubs are.
I rejected this cafe. Let me break down every single point as to why this nomination was generally weak. Being the only "waterside" restaurant or the only "cafe" in a certain perimeter of beachland/bay or (suburb/town for that matter) does not make it automatically eligible.
n unofficialfood critic myself, this nomination does not entice me to visit, it just seems like every other cafe. With an also below average score of 3.5 stars on Google, this does not entice me."A locals favourite coffee shop overlooking Long Bay. It is the only waterside cafe in Malabar.

I hope your next attempt(s) are more substantial or you have better luck with a Niantic appeal; should Niantic accept this nomination then well done. But I stand firm with my analysis. All the best.
I know Krazy Chix. If you want awful coffee. Then sure. Awful bacon and egg roll. Sure . If you want to get takeaway. Walk for ten minutes and eat it cold. Then sure. Be my guest. Don't get me wrong. It is a fast food joint. But Hot Bunz up the road does way better burgers and chicken burgers. Krazy Chix has a big range of food.
But the beach cafe does good food. Is close to where I volunteer. Is close to Cromwell Park. Is used by passerby on the cliff walk. The food is still hot by the time I get to where I volunteer (great steak sarnie and hot chips). If I want to sit and watch the paddle surfing. I can. The coffee is infinitely better than Krazy. And that is saying something. It is a recommended joint if you do the Murray Rose Long Bay swim by the organisers.
Niantic. Never said anything about special. They say a favourite cafe social hangout. It is and it is where I go.
In this area. I can suggest two other cafes and Krazy chix. Sure can. But I didn't. Why ? They are not my favourite hang out when in Long Bay. Why not Hot Bunz? Not open in morning. And like the other two cafes and Krazy Chix. No view. And not my favourite.
Based on favourite hang out joint. Here we are
As for security error. Yeah their website host has not updated the Security Cert on the Https. Rookie error. I will tell them this saturday. Where I will get my brekkie and coffee. While waiting watch sunrise and maybe people will be surfing. To get there I will have walked past two other cafes and Krazy. Why? I want the view. And I want hot food when I walk across Cromwell Park. My favourite Cafe in Long Bay.
That is all......
Hi @rufoushumming-PGO. What Haramdingo is trying to tell you is what you need to include in your submission to make others understand what this place adds to the community.
From the other side of the world, I am researching it on the internet to see what I could tell you to highlight. The news isn't good.
Though you clearly love it, there's no substantiated proof that the rest of your community loves it. Their own website does not list any awards they've won. It doesn't even tell the story of who the owners are, what kind of people hang out there, what unique foods they serve, etc. Basically, the owners aren't telling the world that there is anything special or unique about this place.
So then I move to other review sites. Trip Advisor gives it a 3/5 rating and lists it as #2 out of 2 cafes in Malabar and #6 out of 6 restaurants in Malabar. Yikes. That is not high praise. It is literally listed last in both categories, or is "the worst" Malabar has to offer both in terms of cafes and restaurants. Well, that's just one site. Maybe not many locals use Trip Advisor.
There's a site called The Fork that also has reviews - well, that's associated with Trip Advisor. Still, let me read about it there. Oh no. The reviews talk about long waits, seafood not being fresh, food being cold, new ownership being bad...this is still not looking good.
Their Facebook page shows me 2 reviews - one positive, one that says they won't go here anymore due to the same things listed up there on The Fork.
I found a blog talking about Malabar Beach - cool it has a section on cafes that are favourites with locals. Nope, it only lists Juice Box and Nostimo - no mention of this place.
I could go on and on, but the proof that this is a beloved place is just not out there on the internet. It's not enough that it exists. It has to bring some value to the community and we can't see that being the case. The fact that it is close to where you volunteer doesn't make it POI worthy. I'm not going to suggest other places to submit. I'm just telling you why this place is going to be difficult to get approved.
SeaprincessHNB-PGO
I go to this place. It is my favourite place. I go there because it is local to me. I take coffee to the beach. I have coffee there. I eat lunch from there. My crew who I volunteer with eat and get coffee from there. It is my favourite.
You may have noticed I have not nominated anything anyone tells me to nominate.
Why not? They are not my favourite coffee places. Their bacon and egg rolls are no better or worse than any where else. The coffee at the Juice box. is Meh. Nostimo is neither here nor there for coffee either and you pay more (don't know why). Believe it or not I go to the little Vietnamese baker next to the Juice box to get food. Cheaper and Fresher with great curry pies. And little cups of doughnut balls. Num num
The Niantic criteria to nominate are favourite. Social. Well guess what. This place is my favourite in this area. It is a local social place. Tick tick in my book. Tick tick for meeting criteria. Is it the best? No.Certainly not. But that is not why I nominated it..
I can find a bad report about anything. Some of the best Sydney Restaurants. Frankly from Bennelong to Catalina to Icebergs I have had awful service and mediocre food that cost a small fortune and at Cataline probably the worst service ever. They are all well recognised awarded highly regarded restaurants. I don't go to them any more. But according to your criteria they must be good because all the reviews are positive.
Both you and Haram are missing my point. It is my favourite place. Not yours. You want a video of it being a social space sure. Let me know. I am back again tomorrow morning. Guess what. Having a coffee. Watching the sunrise over Long Bay. Then taking my bacon and egg roll before I start training people. Re Haram saying the website security cert was an issue. So I even had a chat with the cafe last week to fix their website. That is how local it is. And frankly do they have a clue how to run a website or get Social Media. Nah....
Note again. I will have got my food and drink - not from any of the places you or Haram suggested. The ones I will have walked past. But from my fave place in Malabar.
Does it meet Criteria sure does. Do other people recognise that? No. And you know what. That is OK.
Now back to my question... I did not ask why it was or was not a bad restaurant. I asked why this an inappropriate location.
You did not answer that.
It was marked as an "inappropriate location" because Niantic is bad at communication. One or more reviewers probably read "inappropriate location" and thought "this would not be an appropriate location for a wayspot because I don't think it meets the criteria." It's unlikely they actually thought it was an adult-oriented location.
As @JillJilyJabadoo-PGO said, you should ignore this rejection reason and focus on the one that makes more sense ("other rejection criteria").
@Stentorious-PGO Change community.
How is that possible? Not that I want to!!!! Yes true without regulars then hey how does a business survive.
It is a local favourite and well used. All the others that people talk about are all clustered around the Malabar shopping area which is also the main exit point out. So is a natural stop off point for locals. And with at least three routes and the major bus stops at the shopping area.
As I said I walk past them all to go here. I even walk past my final destination and back again ;-) Not far. But I just love place and view with my coffee.
Oh well. Thanks again @Stentorious-PGO and thank you @flatmatt-PGO
To me, this is a good nomination. I list my thoughts:
Rejections criteria:
Anything regarding how good or bad the place is should be taken away from the criteria as all of it is just opinions from the reviewers. 3/5 stars don't mean everyone hates it. And if you don't like the place, just don't go and pick somewhere else.
I live in the most dangerous/violent city in the world. Does that mean all the POIs have to be taken away? Of course not. If people want to come or not to visit is up to them.
I guess you just had bad luck with the reviewers being too picky. Perhaps with other reviewers, you will have better luck.
I would have accepted your nomination. Hope this helps:)
It got rejected again.
Location inappropriate.
Title or Description
Just plain weird......
Let me think of one. There's a cafe at my workplace.
It's my "favourite" cafe because:
Would I choose to nominate the cafe at the local shopping mall just because they gave me a single bad experience with a heavily watered down hot chocolate? Not a chance. Sure, that might be someone else's favourite, but it most certainly is not mine.
Every time I see this nomination, I will reject it. You still described the origin of the name of the suburb Malabar for HALF your nomination instead of describing the
poorcafe. Appeal it. That way you can avoid people like me who don't care about what your favourite cafe is and be assured that Niantic will just blindly accept it (like they did with a concreting company).totally disagree
As I have stated. I walk past the multiple places people tell me are better and should nominate first.
I walk past these suggested place and go past my final destinatioin. I go to this cafe. Get my stuff and walk back to where I want to be.
so let us be clear. I am going out of my way to go to this cafe. It is not convenience in any way. Not that 250m is an inconvenience.
Lets think about this. I go out of my way to go here. I do not go to any of the places people tell me where to go that are meant to be better but that can be up for debate depending on time of day and what you getting. In fact I walk past them all.
As for an interesting nugget. I think it is cool to know that suburb malabar was once named after the Bay this cafe sits on. And this name is of a ship that sank in the Sea this cafe looks over.
Back to my original post. I asked WHY it was marked as an inappropriate location. Which people kindly commented on.
So yes. I will keep nominating or not. It was my local cafe. That sits as the only cafe overlooking Long Bay and Malabar Beach. Makes it unique I guess. But enough - the cafe has just gone under new ownership. So perhaps timing is apt ;-))) and I will nominate again (maybe) once I see what the upgrade is like ;-)
I know now that inappropriate location is being thrown around heaps now judging by a lot of other posts.
So I shall now ignore it being select on this post ;-)
The extraordinary level of pretentious gatekeeping going on in this thread is nauseating.
The guidelines do not indicate that a cafe or restaurant needs to be the best or highly reviewed. They do not indicate that a certain number of stars or review quality or any other of the criteria listed by the down-voting reviewer should be taken into consideration.
They are injecting personal opinion into the nomination review process and their "best judgement" is mere subjective criticism.
This is not a chain restaurant. It meets the criteria as another poster indicated. It is not a low-effort submission, or obviously flawed.
Honestly, it feels like many of the waypoint reviewers consider themselves to be The New Yorker restaurant critics rather than what they are: unpaid volunteers supporting a video game user base.
How does being exceptionally nitpicky about waypoints further the enjoyment of the game for the vast majority of the players who play it?
Does the average player who enjoys Pokémon Go give two craps about whether this cafe is the best in the area or the worst in the area? Do they seriously dig into Yelp or Trip Advisor reviews? No.
Does having another waypoint encourage activity and exploration? Yes.
What provides a better experience for the player base? Having more waypoints or fewer waypoints?
If the criteria of being a great place to gather as a community is met, and the submission does not violate guidelines in some other way, and the photo and supporting information are of reasonable quality, then the submission should be accepted. Hard stop.
The excessive amount of effort that went into the justification of the reviewer who rejected this nomination says everything. Pedantic gatekeeping sucks everywhere it's found, especially the try-hard, sweaty variety.
