Moved business review.

I just came across a review for a gym. There is a POI on the check for duplicates map listing a restaurant in this building. The POI photos show the same brick sign, with a different business identfied. Obviously the restaurant was replaced. Question: Is this a duplicate since the building is the POI?

If not, what do we do. (I skipped since I was not sure)

I'd say that would be considered a duplicate then, but perhaps someone with more reviewing experience can clarify

Are you saying there is one building part of which is a restaurant and part of which is a gym?

The wayspot is the business not the building therefore 2 separate business in separate sections of the same building is fine.

If you have checked and the new submission is for a new business replacing the restaurant then it’s a duplicate……

I would like to have a more efficient way of dealing with scenarios of changed business names etc as it is currently too messy.

This was a replacement of the first business by a second.

What Niantic asks us to do when the wayspot is no longer representative of the real-world POI, even when the replacement POI is also potentially worthy of being its own unique wayspot:

    1. Ask for the wayspot to be removed
    2. Once the wayspot is gone, submit the new POI as a wayspot

The bad news with this recommended procedure is:

    1. Niantic staff are very reluctant to remove existing wayspots, and you will likely need to go through an annoying process of "appeals" here in another section of the forums
    2. Your new submission may be rejected, especially if it's "just" a business, and you will often need to submit more than once
    3. Wayfarer reviewers aren't supposed to be, but sometimes allow photos/titles/descriptions to be updated to match the newer POI. This is relatively dangerous, as Niantic can consider this to be "abuse", and both the submitter and reviewers may be penalized

Personally @NianticTintino-ING I would often much prefer that a "Ship Of Theseus" approach is NOT harmful to Wayfarer, especially in cases where (say) a new restaurant moves into an old one's location -- edits and photo updates COULD streamline the process. But I wouldn't want it used when (for example) the new POI isn't equivalent to the old one -- ie. a florist moves in where a restaurant used to be.

Also helpful would be if, when submitting a location for removal, we could provide longer text AND photos to the Niantic reviewer. I've got a place in my downtown that MOVED several km away, but I cannot for the life of me get the Niantic support to remove the old location, not without forcing my hand into publicly posting a wayspot removal appeal. You can talk to NianticCasey why that is NOT a good idea in my case, we have a DM conversation where I provided details of the harassment I was subjected to from local players, and I will not put myself through that again. I require a private forum where I can provide all said details where only Niantic staff will see it; Casey was happy to do that for me, and since he left nobody else has volunteered to be my go-between. Oh well, more invalid pokestops for my local players, I guess.

Mark it as duplicate. Its picture will be added to the existing Waypoint. The nominator (if a Trainer) can vote up the correct picture, and submit a Title edit to match. If the Nominator is an Agent, they'll have to submit the Title edit in order to see the new picturea and upvote it. (Photos are only loaded to Ingress every 6 months or so.)
