This is currently only meant to be for Lightship developers to submit Wayspots and edits. So the thinking is they’ll do it in their local area for things they want to add for VPS tests etc.
Niantic soon will publish a new entry in the Lightship blog:
"We're so excited about all the new developers signing in to our platform!,
We've seen a huge increase in the number of people that want to develop exciting new projects based on our LightShip platform, and that number keeps on growing, there's also a huge number of Wayspot nominations by those developers that will be added as soon as they are processed by our devoted Wayfarer users.
Previously these developers weren't able to add new wayspots unless they played either Ingress or Pokemon Go and reached a certain level, but we've thought that developers interested in our platform are special so they can add as many candidates as they want.
I found a couple of potential poi that have 2 or 3 things in the same cell so I'll never see them in game but wanted to see what the process was for the app :D
Well, I've found a strange thing. I've tried to do a submission through the app and I've hit a brick wall at the end, it tells me my supporting info is bad ..... didn't know that was even a thing. But because of this, I can't submit it, the next button is greyed out. The weird thing is, it's telling me it's bad because I've put a weblink in it, so apparently the app doesn't like weblinks, which is stupid because the supporting info is exactly where we need to put weblinks as proof
At this point, there has been almost no communication on the app. The quiet thing between the lines is the app is intended only for dev use at this time and not the general Wayfarer community.
I was guessing there isn't a lot for general use, like, I can submit but then can't track it or edit what I submitted, though I can see it on the map and edit it there even though its not in the games lol.
Oh, there is very strenuous testing that is being involved.
It is possible to add a wayspot to turn it into a "provisional" wayspot.
It is possible to add photos and edit the title/description/location of a provisional wayspot AND see it in Wayfarer mid-review.
It is possible to get an approval from the Wayfarer app, it is reviewed by the Niantic Lightship VPS team and you will receive an email of an approval.
While there is no confirmation of submitted edits, wayspots or photos as of yet, they'll probably be in the future.

I can now login to the Wayfarer app and submit, edit irrespective of my Go/Ingress level?
Why did they reduce it to 37 recently if that's possible?

Damn it. I'm only at level 1 in my Lightship development game.
I guess once you can log in with Google/Facebook/Apple, there will be some restrictions.
Would you like to place money on that guess :D
You can hold me to £10 if I’m ever around your play area. 😆 💸
So if I think I found the place to create a lightship account.
so it doesn’t matter what email I use to create the account?
No. It just took me 5 minutes to create a new gmail account, then sign up and sign into the Wayfarer app.

See you out there"
I found a couple of things to submit and they show as 'Provisional Wayspots' on the Wayfarer app after submission.
It's great that this exists without even the mention of reviewing... leave that to the game playing chumps.
@The26thDoctor-PGO since they reset your stats you may as well. 🤔
@WheelTrekker-ING that sounds unnervingly accurate.
I’m not going to submit anything, but I’ll have a nosey around.

Head's up that "Provisional Wayspots" show up on that global Lightship map. Anyone can see those nominations.
I made it 😂😂😂
Thank you everyone for patience and help.
the ELI5 way
install the TestFlight app
create a lightship developer account
(I used a separate gmail I don’t want anything this might do to mess with my games and wayfarer)
That gave me the option to try wayfarer app
but you might need this link
So the “provisional” ones are only ones submitted via this app, and not those already submitted by the normal wayfarer route?
I’m a bit surprised that one’s I had approved but we’re not in use in any game don’t show. But it is a Beta version
"Failed to login" with my Gmail account, lol
I may be missing something but why would that matter?
I think so. It looks like Go/Ingress submissions will only show after being accepted. That's how it looks at the moment to me at least.
You need to sign up for a Lightship Dev account then use that to log in.
The links are in @Elijustrying-ING's post above.
I submitted a couple of edits, will they get through? I used the same email as for Niantic Wayfarer, is that wrong?
For most, it won't matter. For some, this could be a serious privacy concern, especially for somebody just "testing" things out.
Thanks.

From what I've read, it's not possible to cancel those nominations before they are reviewed, so it would be better to not send test nominations.

Agreed. Good to bring up both points of ours.

Why not test it first?
Oh, there is very strenuous testing that is being involved.
