UK: Is this kind of shop not eligible or is it being rejected because it’s “on a farm”

Hi everyone

I’d really appreciate some feedback on this nomination which has been rejected twice.

I’ve submitted it because it’s a unique local shop which I thought made it eligible under the exploration criteria, but it’s getting rejected under “Other Rejection Criteria” and “Private Residence or Farm”

To be clear, it’s not on a farm or anywhere near a farm. There was a farm on this site before the housing estate was built in the 1950s which is what the shop is named after, and it’s a “farm shop” in that it sells local produce.

Is this kind of shop not eligible?

If it is eligible, is there something else I am missing, or there anything I can I do to improve my submission?

Thanks so much

Is there a solid sign anywhere instead of the reflective glass that your picture was taken at an angle probably to avoid seeing yourself in the picture? You mention a bit about how it’s special and locally sourced but don’t include any actual details about local favorites. You mention it’s part of a parade of smalls shops, what makes this one special compared to the others? Does it have any awards or community based reviews to make it stand out above the rest?

Hello and Welcome @StormV7000-PGO from across the Pennines.

This sort of place is a hard sell.

the private property is a red herring, the key is that people didn’t think it met the criteria.

it does look a nice place with good local products.

First @Stentorious-PGO is right the photo needs improvement.

Very crude but the sign along with all the products is now firmly the focus of the photo rather than a building. If you can make it less of an angle it would be good.

Their website and Facebook pages are not very dynamic but they do emphasise the individual nature. Links to these should go in supplementary info. You could even link to made in Sheffield site.

your description is too much like an advert.

You are trying to make this sound highly distinctive.

Something like …..who would have thought to look for a farm shop in a 50s housing estate.

yes it’s cheesy but conveys a lot.

Focus on it being independent, local produce - I like the quirky publishing of the days when goods are available.

Products available vary on seasons and local deliveries - if you want the Curry make sure to go on a Thursday.

And start with it’s a community shop committed to ethical farming and a low carbon footprint.

in the supporting info leave out the parade of shops

A Bland shop has been turned into a place to find a treasure trove of unusual goodies, and it is rare to find the breadth of produce available. They provide a sales point for 40 small independent businesses.

    You get the idea

But it will be hard to convince people - upgrade on a Friday night.

you can try appealing this one.

@Stentorious-PGO No, that’s the only signage annoyingly, but I think I can get a better shot and will work on the description. That’s really helpful, thank you very much!
