Why care - criteria & voting

With the "Niantic voting" icon and appeals, it has become more obvious when Niantic accepts nominations that should never have met criteria, specific examples including the video department of a Wal-Mart, generic gas stations in populous cities, "Pokémon" terminology in the description, and generic post boxes. Similarly, playgrounds, parks, and trail signage meeting specific eligibility are sometimes rejected.
With an obvious lack of quality control and no recourse to deal with bad Niantic votes, why should we (the community reviewers) care when Niantic so clearly does not?

Of course Niantic stands by these tyoes of nominations because they approved them.
In my region, they accepted a gas station and a dentist office.
I've also seen several (generic) fast food chains that were confirmed Niantic reviews.
Are we being too strict and/or does Niantic really not care about criteria?
I'm being told Niantic accepted a lot of junk in germany lately. Personally I haven't seen any proof that Nia accepted illegal Graffitis, temporary statues that are within PRP and nominations with PoGO-related stuff, but some people hinted that their friends had success with garbage nominations. It would explain the influx of trash that has been accepted, I don't think the community would have accepted these.
I'll make sure this, too, gets shared for those who doubt.
@NianticGiffard actually did remove this one from the system, but the thread was later deleted, presumably because Niantic doesn't make mistakes.
