This one is easy and would stop several spammy topics here?
Can PokéStop and Portal Nomination be shifted to ‘Wayspot nomination’ when interacting with Wayfarer in Ingress and Pokémon GO?
This is a delightful suggestion, this shift would better cement expectations for what a Wayfinder does--suggest interesting and unique points of interest in their local area for inclusion in the Niantic Wayfarer program--rather than reinforcing additions to an individual game. Definitely something we’ll look into.
Something to look in to, two years ago. Wonder if they ever looked, or did the looker get 8%’d?
I agree just tired of the terms portal, pokestop, gym, flower etc.
It is a very difficult thing to change a persons thinking of what they understand as the naming convention in their respective game.
However, before Wayfarer, it was OPR which was an Ingress dedicated thing.
But don't you want to be seen wdtsttnw (walking down the street to the nearest wayspot)?
I'm sure if they want to read the room and encourage the term "wayspot" to be used in everyday language, they would support neutral terminology across the games when submitting. But the Wayfarer app is an excellent example of what it can be right now (minus the much lower character limits).
Don’t talk to me about the lower character limits in the app. 😢
Maybe the future solution IS to submit from the wayfarer app, and retire the "submit pokestop/portal" buttons completely.
The app would need extra settings, like "do you want your name to be displayed as AgentName-ING or TrainerName-PGO or FellowWayfarer?", but after that it should be game neutral.
I think Niantic has proven that they do not want the wording changed. It would have been a simple change, since Day One, five years ago.
So I would like to ask Niantic:
"Why do you like game-specific wording in the nomination process? What advantage does Niantic see in it? Do you see a way to ease the frustration it causes Explorers?"
But really, I think they're ignoring the value of this simple change - because they've been concentrating on the app that does not have game-specific wording. Never mind that millions go thru Pokemon Go or Ingress every year. The new product has been coming "soon" for FIVE YEARS.
If you mean change Niantic's wording in instructions then I agree. But auto-correcting text in people's submissions would cause havoc. I have a submission with "portal" in the real world name, nothing to do with Ingress. Changing this to "wayspot" would make it nonsense.
Yes, I just mean for the submission process. I have a key for a Portal which is named Portal as that’s the name of the artwork, so wouldn’t want to change that.
