Could Niantic support help me with editing hometown address?

Hi everyone!

I'm a new one here, haven't figure out yet how to look for related discussions, so I'll create my own, if you don't mind.

I've moved to another country (Armenia) and will stay here for a while, so I would like to ask Niantic support to edit my hometown address (that can be modified only once, I'm aware of that) to a current one.

Bonus address had been already changed, but seems it's not enough for reviewing new wayspots over the area. Or how else could it be that the system allows me to review only 2-3 nominations per day, and my own nominations are pending in queue for a long time?

Hope for a prompt feedback. Thank you!

First off, Home Location resets are possible but uncommon. Maybe @NianticLC or @NianticAaron can help you there.

A bigger thing that might help more than resetting your Home location, though, is making sure Wayfarer is set to your current location. When you log into Wayfarer, what does the "Featured Wayspots" show? If it isn't updated to relatively close to your new area, Wayfarer may not know you've moved. The simple fix for that is to play a little in any account linked to this one - for some reason, Wayfarer prioritizes your Ingress activity, even if you submit & review thru PoGO. Some of this is mentioned in a discussion I linked below.

Of course, that's just an idea and there could be other factors.

There is no benefit to having your home or bonus location set to where you currently play.

That only means you'll get "No more to review" more often, because you have fewer than expected places to draw nominations from.

"for some reason, Wayfarer prioritizes your Ingress activity, even if you submit & review thru PoGO"

Why? Why not hiring QA or something instead of explaining some weird stuff like PoGo players ore obliged to install another game to teach Wayfarer they've moved to another place months ago - how does it even make sense? Your post was written more than a year ago but nothing have changed what means either Niantic team doesn't know about the problem (so what's the reason of this forum though?) or they just don't care about it.

After all, your answer doesn't explain why the nominations wait in voting for months. Living on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey, having both my home and bonus locations here, I review the nominations from Cyprus, Ankara and even Istanbul. I would never believe there's not enough players in these places not to see the nomination that's been in voting since the middle of November.

The only reasonable answer is that the Wayfarer algorithms are totally ruined by the conflux with Foursquare. For example, I've been sent to the cool-down after 10 choosings between empty pictures and the photo of some random warehouses. What was my suspicious activity again?

That only means that Niantic team:

    1. Prioritises the photo change on the review of new nominations.
    2. Doesn't even care how to put player's locations on the place where they really are.
    3. Discriminates PoGo players by Ingressers though they do even more to build the local infrastructure (who could even think about it?).

The worst thing about this is that nobody's going to change anything, everybody who would do it just continue to explain why it works that way. Very sad story.

No the algorithms were like this for five years - long before the conflux with Foursquare.

Niantic tries to prioritize "rural" areas, but they are poor at identifying "rural", and they punish (slow-track) "non-rural" areas too much.

@NianticLC or @NianticAaron please help me with editing hometown address, thank you. As Gendgi-PGO previously mentioned, it is possible.

If you want a quicker answer you might want to ask help chat, you can access it by going to the wayfarer website, click on the help tab, an orange chat bubble will appear. Follow the instructions there (just choose the options closest to your request).

Armenia and also it's neighbouring countries, especially the brodering regions, are not a country/region with a lot of activity across all Niantic products. Depending on where you play there, it will draw nominations for review from a certain range, that is quite big, but still with only few people submitting. If the advice above does notapply or you already tried those and it still won't change, that will be your issue, that there aren't even submitters in your review range

@Filosofemme-PGO did you verify your "Featured Wayspots" correctly matches your current play area? It may not reflect your current city but it would be less than 150mi/250km away from where you are, now.

This is the page I mean:

From what seems to be entering 6 years of reviewing, the nominations you review come from:

    • where you're located while reviewinga
    • places you have been
    • your home location
    • your bonus location
    • any nominations that seem to be close calls in the voting process (this is where location can be anywhere)

I would say it does not matter where your home location is set as it's just used as another pool to review from. As long as you're reviewing from your new place, it should be giving you nominations around the area. Do note you can reset your home location every year.
