Why is forum participation made “mandatory” by Niantic?

Want to know the latest criteria updates? Oh, they’re not on the main site, they’re hidden away in a year old topic.
Want to repot an Invalid Wayspot? Well, your report via the game won’t work, wait until you get the and then dox yourself on the forums.
Want to participate in a Wayfarer challenge? What’s that, you didn’t know there was one? Oh, sorry you need to be on forums.
Want to ask an important question to Niantic? Sorry buddy, gotta go to the forums.

What alternatives do you propose?
i want clarifications to be posted on the main site and searchable. there could be an events tab on the menu to tell us there is an event happening. a notification like on the help chat would let us know there is new information.
It should be possible to do all of these things on the main Wayfarer site, or at least start them there.
Updated criteria seems simple enough to add. When a report is rejected, the email should advise to raise via the Chat on the main site, listing the details needed. Others have suggested a “News” section to the main site to detail what’s changed, and you could have a banner saying what the current challenge is and then maybe a link to the forum discussion post about it if you want to discuss it.
The last one, is why I mentioned you could start there. A banner saying there’s an AMA on, on the main site which then sends you to this forum and gives details on how to participate.
Nobody should be penalised for not keeping up with criteria etc. when it’s not on the main site.
Move more stuff to help chat? And use the showcase site as a true landing page with news and stuff? Actually update the criteria sites with all added stuff and clarifications?
Idk, but even this AMA hasn't been announced yet by @NianticWayfarer in Twitter.
Heck, many people didn't even notice about previous Wayfarer challenge in Twitter, this conversation below is an example.

I made a joke the other day that Niantic was going to announce this AMA on the wayfarer website.
It shouldn’t have been a joke.
Niantic: “See! They want an app! Close the site! All app, all the time!”
They haven’t announced it via Twitter even. I thought that would happen.
