When people lie and deny sometimes that meets criteria

I submitted an appeal on a park bench that I submitted. The reason it was denied: it appears to be part of the environment such as a waterfall or a mountain, rather than a man mad object. The bench is clearly a man made object and meets all criteria. I'm just wondering how and why people would lie like that to get a nomination rejected.

Generally speaking, a bench in a park doesn't meet the eligibility criteria.
So then why are so many of them pokestops?
There has to be something unique about a bench to get approved. The most common is a memorial or dedication plaque of some sort. The second most common, that I’ve seen an increase of in recent months, are benches that are uniquely painted. Similarly to painted utility boxes, they stand out and make a decent POI in my opinion.
