Wondering about cell space in pogo
Hi everyone. Ok so I've heard talk on YT about cell block size(don't understand any of it) in Pogo determining which waypoints show up as stops or gyms. I have screen shots of what my game looks like at a local park, as well as the satellite view. The 2 gyms are the basketball court and a pull up bar at the park. The PokeStop is the playground area(whoever submitted that placed it on the swings for some reason) one of the pins is the pavilion which only shows up in ingress. The other pin is on the second set of pull up bars. That one is not in Pogo or Ingress. If anyone knows about this stuff can you please explain what is at play here causing some things to show up in Pogo and not ingress and some things to only be in Ingress? Thanks in advance.

Search for Pokémon Go S2 cells since the link I posted needs to be moderated first...
Pogo and Ingress have two different systems of what are called “exclusion rules”: the guidelines that determine how close together points of interest can be and still appear in one game. Pogo uses S2 cells, Ingress uses a minimum distance of 20 meters. So POI that share an S2 cell won’t show in Pogo but might be 20 meters apart and appear in Ingress. Conversely, POI that are very close to each other might both appear in Pogo if they’re in different cells, though not in Ingress.
Niantic does not much appreciate discussion of s2 cells in this forum (though they have no problem with measuring 20 meters at a time), so this thread is likely to be closed soon. Consult the rest of the internet for more information.
We´re not gonna talk about Cells at all, we´re gonna keep her out of it.
This will be part of the 40% of topics Niantic interacts with!
For your reference, this is the park with the limits of S2 cells and 20 meters around existing portals for Ingress.

Niantic mods approving a topic about Pokémon GO with images in, so that they can close it down later.
Thanks to everyone who has commented. I didn't know that Niantic doesn't like this sort of thing posted about.
They want you to work for free, and if you're aware of the rules you might stop working when you realize that there are no more viable candidates around you.
Or... You might realize that things can be nudged over the imaginary lines *gasp*
@RubyandSamsMama-PGO it’s ok to post as we can help.
I have the broad view that understanding what happens helps you to have a satisfying experience and that in turn encourages you to be more active in finding suitable places to submit and present them well. The more you submit the more wayspots there are. Good for the game playing community, and good for wayfarer. It’s a cycle of positive feedback.
Pogomap.info
Pokemon Go uses S14 and s17 Cells
1 Pokestop per s17 cell
1-5 Pokestops is 1 Gym in an s14 cell
6-18 is 2
And 19+ is 3 Gyms (hard but not impossible)
Happy Planning 👍
Oh and there is no minimum distance between stops in neighbouring cells
You are so helpful thank you. Can I just ask something else? If there is no minimum distance between stops, why do you think it is that the waypoint with the pin out there that was just approved isn't in ingress or Pogo? It's the pin close to the swing set. I keep looking at it wondering because it seems like there is plenty of room for a PokeStop there and can't figure out why it wasn't added to either game.
Because only one pokestop per cell. Distance doesn’t matter. However, distance matters in Ingress so unfortunately it runs afoul of both inclusion rules.
ingress doesn’t use cells. It requires 20m between points. So if it is within 20m it won’t appear.
So it’s possible if there is less than 20m a occupied cell it wo t appear in either of these games, or if less than 20m but with a cell line between to appear in Go and not ingress.

Quick, I don't have much time. Obama's last name is-
Ooh, I wonder if you forced them to change it up just so they don’t become predictable!
Maybe they've realized that it doesn't make sense to keep closing the threads after all?

Working as intended👍
it will close soon™️
I guess if this thread is closed, we're all having a lock-in? 🤔🤣
It’s an ALIS, as Richard Ayode says. Just waiting for a crystal to free us.
In typical Niantic fashion, they said they would do something and now we are all waiting too long for them to actually do it
Sometimes you may find more than 3 gyms inside the same S14, or 2 pokestops inside the same S17 cell, that's because people misplace wayspots on purpose in another cell and then move it to its right location, this process ignores these rules that were mentioned above and can create some weird clusters, the system has its flaws and they don't want us to share the knowledge :P
@NoctaD-PGO its because that happened in the past they changed things and if people try those sorts of moves now it recalculates.
